The "which famous person died today" thread

such a shocker - the minute I read that I heard the Goooaaaalllllllaaaachio off the telly and Nessum Dorma - not the best striker ever but Italia 90 was his time and he made the most of it. Rest well Toto you gave me such great memories RIP

Every World Cup a handful of players come to define that year's competition and he was definitely one of them. He might have been something of a one, or six, hit wonder but his name is indelibly etched in football history.

The intensity in his eyes in his celebrations showed the joy and passion he had in scoring for his country.

He and Roger Milla were the most memorable aspects of that World Cup for me, along with the mental first match between Cameroon and Argentina.

It's a real shock that. Loved him, he was a great player.
So was Gary Shaw too.
I'll always remember the delight in both their faces, and the sheer joy in what they both achieved.
Lovely memories, R I P

Tony Soper naturalist and author - always on TV when I was young - guested on Animal Magic and championed the BBC Wildlife operation out of BBC Bristol. RIP

Ubiquitous stints on any wildlife show, easy to listen to and no edge to him at all, perfectly old school BBC.

Grand old age too.

Anyone remember that mid 70s kids TV show Striker?
I'm pretty sure Kenneth Cope wrote that.
It's about a kid and his dad who live in a caravan. The dad is an ex footballer career ended by injury.
Joe Gladwin and the guy who played Don Brennan in Coronation Street were in it.
By coincidence, Don Brennan/ Striker Dyker has also passed. In Striker, he played an ex footballer who retired through a bad injury. As Don Brennan, he had one leg amputated. Geoff Hinsliff obviously had a talent for playing limping roles?
He appeared in loads of 70s series to be honest and was a fine actor. RIP sir.

It's weird because someone mentioned him on here a few days ago being in a kids TV show in the 70s. So I thought I'd wiki him and see what he was up to..a few days later he's dead. I remember my dad hated his Don Brennan character back in the day. I thought he was quite good when he turned jekyll and wanted to kill every fucker. RIP.

Yeah, Don went from Jeckyl to Hyde in Corrie. Mind you, being married to Ivy, surprised he didn't turn sooner.

I've just looked, 83 to 90 so I was 10 to 17 years old. Weird how I've never heard of it. I might give it a go then Joe.
