The "which famous person died today" thread

Apparently Kristofferson told Cohen he was going to have the first lines of "Bird on the Wire" on his gravestone...

Like a bird on the wire
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free..

I hope that's the case, as it's a fitting epitaph for a great songwriter. RIP.

Was brilliant in midnight run and of course Beverly Hills cop ..
I am convinced that Midnight Run is the most underrated movie ever made, and I know it was reasonably highly rated. It brings me joy every time I watch it. Brilliant performances, great action scenes, funny as all get-out, so many of my favo(u)rite actors. Wonderful film, in my top ten ever.

It’s a sad day for-the family of Kris Kristofferson and Sinead already left, two of the very best artists Rest in Peace:
From todays papers

Kris Kristofferson remembered for support of Sinéad O’Connor on stage

The late Irish protest singer drew controversy during her appearance on Saturday Night Live in October 1992, where she ripped up a picture of Pope John Paul II.

The week after, O’Connor appeared on stage in New York’s Maddison Square Garden at a Bob Dylan tribute concert, where she was vehemently booed by the crowd.

Kristofferson, who was also playing at the concert, comforted O’Connor while she was receiving abuse from the crowd, telling her, ‘don’t let the bastards get you down’.

Speaking to RTÉ’s Miriam O’Callaghan in 2010, Kristofferson recalled the moment, saying: “I went out. They told me to get her off the stage and I said, ‘I’m not about to do [that].’

“I went out and I said, ‘Don’t let the bastards get you down’. And she said, ‘I’m not down’ – and she sang.

Leonard Cohen claimed to be Kris Kristofferson when he first met Janis Joplin in the Chelsea Hotel. He used to tell it as a funny story live
