RIP Bernard great actor, didn’t he live on Grange Park Road near Boggart Hole Clough, one of my fave episodes was one he was in the confession box, I’m Desperate Dan.

I got to know Bernard about 20 years ago. He lived near me in north Suffolk then, and used to come in the local on a Thursday night to join one of the quiz teams. Like him, I was a Manc and an ex Xaverian lad. He was from Blackley and I was born in Ancoats. He was a red but rarely went.
He had his boy, Gabriel quite late in life. He was a very nice and modest guy who never 'gave it large' ever, and had no edge about him. He moved away from our area - nearer to the coast - and I hadn't bumped into him for probably 5 years.
Great actor and his portrayal of Yosser Hughes will live forever. Ironic that he was on the box tonight in his final role in The Responder on BBC.
RIP Bernard. An underrated actor and absolute star in everything he did. You'll be sadly missed.

Didn't realise it was 80s without Google. I can picture the opening credits clearly and remember this chap. I worked shifts in the early 80s and must've got home around the time this started. Can't recall any story lines but there were a few comedy characters as in most soaps of its time. Brian's character had a glamorous wife I recall. He had a good innings and outlived most of his colleagues from the show. RIP mate
