The Willy post game thread (merged)

Apologies for being so vocal against him playing. Can only go off what you've seen and up until today he's been woeful. Still think it was a gamble - but one that paid off gloriously.
Well done and thanks Willy - and Manuel!

Let this be a lesson to all. Always back a blue. Moaning about our own only makes as bad as the scousers who like to play the I love / Hate Mignolet every week.
Psst! The lesson will be forgotten as soon as Wednesday. Sadly: (

William it was really everything

Im in the sorry club. The least goalkeepery looking goalkeeper ever turned into the best goalkeeper ever in a glorious day at Wembley. Pellegrini is owed an apology from old one ball too. I love this club, its the bollocks

I'm so happy for him, I felt he should play and it made our victory a little bit sweeter for me seeing him be the hero of the day. Seeing how much it meant to him and the fans cheering him when Bony lifted him was brilliant. Great decision making Manuel!!

Mad how a player can go from zero to hero in such a short space of time, but fair play to him. I expect he'll leave in the summer, but today should ensure his popularity amongst City fans. Hopefully it'll serve as a reminder not to completely write players off too.

To be fair, last week against Chelsea he was playing behind a very youthful side that simply by the second half, could not sustain the energy they had provided in the first half. And remember, Willy saved a penalty in the first half too!

And for those who had / have said he is the worst City keeper ever..... I suspect you never saw Martyn Margestson.....

I'm being completely honest when I say I did not think Willie had it in him, especially when it came to the penalty shoot out. So, so glad Willie and Pellers proved me wrong. My sincere apologies, Willie, you were da man!! He could not be faulted on the Liverpool goal the way it came off the post. Amazing performance during the shootout. I doubt Joe would have saved 3 penalties like Willie did.

Well done Willy you were the hero at Wembley. Lucas's penalty wasn't the worst you'll see, many worse than that have gone in, it was a really good save. But the Coutinho stop was outstanding. Coutinho tried the old hesitate and pause in his run up but Willy, cool as ice just waited for him to strike the ball before reacting. Brilliant. On the balance of play City deserved it and Willy ensured we won it.

Well said Ric. Any chance of the Willy Must Play thread being moved to the Classic threads?

I was wrong! And so fucking happy to be so.

He's shut every single on of us up! So fucking happy for the guy! I expect he'll go at the end of the season, but he'll go out an absolute hero!

Brilliant to be proven SO, SO, SO wrong. Fair play to the lad. He gave it all and delivered. Two great saves in the game and three superb penalty saves. The new Nicky Weaver.
