Theo Walcott? ..

quite the opposite, walcott since 16 has really not improved much. I remember watching an interview with walcott when he was 18 and he was asked who has the most skills when you play 5 a side in training. He said Diaby has few tricks, but its not something for me. That comment alone explains why theo has not improved much since he came to Arsenal. He's not someone who is willing to add to his game in training and learn new moves. imagine if Theo could dribble with that pace? he would be an absolute nightmare to play against. if he learned how to manipulate the ball and create space for him, once he do you, he will never be caught. But until today i have not seen him dribble with skill and a bit of finesse, its always knock it to the side and run. After watching many interviews with Theo, i have come to the conclusion he's not a football fan, he sees football as a job and just does enough to get buy. There's no desire to learn and improve.

I have seen RVP speak about how he goes him after each game and watches his game to see what he did right and wrong, how he always watches football on tv and his desire to elarn. maybe im wrong, but Theo dont strike me like that type
Do you think it is easy to suddenly learn fundamental skills at 16? He should have been learning these things are 8,9 and 10. Walcott has added a lot to his game, but it is still inconsistent, because he lacks the fundamentals. Do you really think you many professionals can learn to dribble at the highest level at 16?

Walcott's crossing has improved leaps and bounds. Before he could never beat the first man. It may still be inconsistent, but now he can occasionally whip it in with real pace. It takes a lot of work to do that so late.

Another notable area he has improved is his shooting from range.

In truth it is too late for someone like Walcott, but he can still keep improving. A top coach needed to get to him much younger.

yes i think its easy to learn fundamentals at 16. You make it sound like he was picked from the streets at 16. The guy has been at Southampton academy(one of the best in the country) for many years. He was the start of 2004/2005 youth fa cup and I remember how sky was building him up when his southampton team reached the finala nd build up to the final was all about him. If he was let down by coaches, how come bale, nathan dyer and lallana who all were in the team Theo was a star in wasnt let down by the coaches as those players has fundamentals. From 16 to 23 for someone who has been around one of the best technical coaches in the world with world class facilities, he has not added anywhere near enough he should have.

No coach can improve a player if the player dont have the desire to put the work in. Theo has been gifted with athleticism very very few players in the world ever has and instead of adding to his game to use his gift, he became lazy and realized he could get away with his pace

It's interesting you compare Walcott and Bale, because they are very similar players. The KEY difference is that Walcott was trained to be a striker and Bale a fullback/winger. So learning to cross, taking free kicks and corners is something Bale was taught/had to develop in matches. Walcott was a striker and running onto balls over the top was his forte. Bale has an exceptional left foot when it comes to striking a ball. However, this is standard training for a full back.

At the end of the day Bale and Walcott in the last couple of years have played for clubs at the same level. Roughly here are there stats in Premiership. Bale 72 games, 18 goals and 5 assist. Walcott 66 games, 18 goals and 15 assist. Bale is equally as fast as Walcott and would wager a lot more of Walcott's appearances have been from the bench.

Above is a small 2 minute video of Walcott's season. Just looking at that video gives a small window into how his crossing and long range shooting have improved.

Walcott gets far too much criticism. He was trained to be a striker and his technical skills were neglected. Yet his end product is superior to that of Bale's despite spending far less time on the pitch.

The Comparison of Bale is a good one to make because both excell when given space, take it away and they are much less effective, at the moment both are eyeing new roles walcott as a central striker and Bale as a floating attacking midfielder but the truth is unless each makes a significant adaptation in thier playing attributes then they will always be best in their current roles; Walcott as a counter attacking RF and Bale as an outside Left LM rather than a winger higher up the pitch as he needs the space to make those bursting runs which he does much better from deeper positions, Bale is a good striker of the ball with is left foot when it comes to crossing and shooting but in terms of dribbling ability he is about average so he is never likely to be the most effective in a more attacking role and he also doest 'nt possess awareness in terms of taking up a position in front of goal or the top notch vision and ability to see a pass.

To conclude they are both effective players in space but because of their reliance on that facet Walcott will never be suited to a stiker's role and Bale will never be the all rounded attacker that many claimed he would be.

You have to wonder why all these top managers consider him to be good yet the great of bluemoon who have 2 trillion hours of FM are still not getting the Real Madrid job

I know Walcott to liverpool is a likely possibility, but why? Surely they aren't offering more money than arsenal and arsenal are a better team
