They should listen to Obama

Ha, I think that might be a bit hyperbolic. In reality his proposals will be beaten either in Congress or the Supreme Court, and nothing will really change. Still seems insane that the supposedly most progressive country in the world are chained to this ridiculous Second Amendment dating back over 200 years.

When that law was passed, it used to take over a minute to load a pistol or rifle, now in a minute you can literally kills hundreds of people.

As its so emotive to so many of the gun toting knobs, then allow them to have whatever guns they want, but what about tighter restrictions on ammunition, if all serial numbers were logged to individuals, then tracing them when used would be easier. For the leaders of the free world the fact gun crime is out of control and the fact they execute their own citizens, is bizarre in the extreme IMO.

Saw a stat, gun deaths in UK last year, 24, gun deaths on Christmas day alone in the US, 25.

Even taking into account cheating at Monopoly that is a hell of a lot of shooting....

To be fair at least 3 of the games of Cluedo we played on Christmas Day / Boxing Day involved the pistol. Is this factored in?

Firstly, the complete ban on firearms is a fantasy as the country is extremely large and contains lots of rural of farming areas which requires guns as a form of pest control.

That same statement could be said of Australia

No, congress nor the Supreme Court can do anything about an Executive Decision. It's beyond their reach, as far as I know.

It's like a direct order to be written into law.

He's not changing the law, per se, but safeguarding ownership to guns from the sellers to owners.

Just means sellers are directly responsible for the owner's actions if no checks were done.

Its a problem that seems to have no solution, the mentality of such a fantastic country, I mean fantastic in terms of NASA and foreign aid they dish out and such a high standard of living, iconic things like cars, clothes, music and a fantastic entertainment industry which most of us enjoy.
This picture has been posted before in off topic and yet it continues to have a huge effect on me, the blonde woman is a politician, imagine if a politician in the UK or Oz sent out this xmas card, it would be the end of their careers, but in the US its acceptable, even the little boy is holding a gun.

3 mass shootings already this year, what can be done to stop this madness

http://www.gunviolencearchive.org/reports/mass-shooting
Spot on. If you actually look at what you are doing it is barely anything still easier to get a gun than insurance, a car, but a house, join a golf club or get a loan. Infinitesimally easier than buying an alcoholic drink.

It seems mad that there is this lobby that essentially makes buying a gun as easy as buying a tube of toothpaste and is essentially battling for the rights of Jihadi's and nutters who may be banned from all sorts of basic things and on no fly lists to be able to buy assault weapons.

They slam Obama as this anti gun president yet statistically more guns have been sold and more money has been made by gun makers than ever.

Utterly utterly mental and the lies they use are crazy, they pretend that any small waiting period is banning guns. It's a bit like saying putting a new set of traffic lights in is banning driving

The amazing thing is that actually the majority of Americans agree with Obama, the majority of American wealth agrees with Obama but the NRA and friends have found a way to essentially buy the congress and senate with their threats and the liberal billionaires fear if they fight fire with fire they will be gunned down by a nutter - which unfortunately is probably true.

With the Supreme Court ruling on donations it is going to take one super rich billionaire who doesn't fear death to start to offer 20m dollars to anti gun congress candidates to change anything.

And there's a million people in Australia with a gun licence. Guns aren't illegal over there

They're not illegal over here either.

Surely you agree that owning a licence becoming mandatory would be a huge step in the right direction in the USA? (I accept it's unlikely because they don't want the "gurvermeant" knowing what guns they have etc).
