I am 90% certain that he will stay at Barcelona.

Me too, I don't think Barcelona would need to work very hard to convince him to stay if they see him as Xavi's replacement, and he'll be 34 this year.

agree, aswell why would they sell him. I think if he does leave it will be reluctantly.

I am too.

But I want City to be that 10% outlier.

There are no doubts we have tried but Barcelona will not make the same mistake they had done with Fabregas.
I think they have to choose whether to sell Fabregas again if they want Thiago. The fans want that outcome, but appearances indicate the manager and executives want Fabregas.

Before the flappers really get to this one:

I think we should recognize that even if we trigger his buyout clause, there's a very good chance we won't come to terms because he'll want to stay at Barca.

This one isn't really our fault if we don't get him, unless he goes to another club. But I can't really see him going anywhere but here or staying at Barca.

And if we don't trigger his buyout clause: it's because we wouldn't be able to sign him since he'll want to stay at Barca, not because we don't want him or because our braintrust is dumb.

Fabregas is also far superior to Thiago which could well be another reason the manager and executives would prefer to keep him.

Honestly I wasn't commenting on that. If Fabregas were up for sale, I would want us to go in for him, too. Thiago seems more likely and his potential is off the charts. I still have reservations about Pellegrini, but I don't have a single reservation about his ability to get a talented young player to his full potential.

Barry & Garcia get passed around like a pair of traffic cones (which isn't helped by Yaya's lack of enthusiasm or drive to get back when the ball is lost in the opponents half) when the opposition is a footballing side & have the ball.

This was seen in all of our CL games last season (and before you mention BVB & Real getting far, just think of both Ajax games, especially the away one), and whilst - yes, Barry was essential the season before - he is getting on.

Still easily good enough to be part of the squad and play against most teams in the PL if he starts occasionally & intelligently, but I can't see how we can align our desire to advance past the group stages in the CL with a starting spot for Barry.

Yet the worst display of 'traffic cones' was v Dortmund, & Barry wasn't playing.

Strange.

So, the fact that we made the mistake of employing someone that is even less mobile than Barry is the best endorsement that you have of Barry's skills ? Not really the most convincing argument.

Plus, it could be argued that getting passed around by eventual finalists (in what i think was amongst - if not THE - the best performance(s) of any away team at ours that I have seen in my 27 years as a City fan) is not the worst embarrassment that could be had.

Getting destroyed by the Dutch champions however is considerably less credible.

Anyway, as someone said, back on topic....

It is on topic, people are suggesting signing this Spanish kid & the position he would end up playing is where Barry plays, as everywhere else is taken, by better players than him.

It was Rodwell & Yaya Toure who were the traffic cones v Dortmund & combined to give them their goal, Garcia only lasted 30 mins. Both of them are quicker & miles better defensively than Thiago.

A better system would be Fernandinho AND Gareth Barry togerther & no Thiago.

Yaya Thiago, fernandinho and Vidal are the 4 for those 2 positions for me.
