I know there's a fair bit of excitement about Thiago because of Graham Hunter's tweet but I can't see us going for Thiago. From what I understand (reading an old Sid Lowe article on Aguero's release clause) that the release clause in Spanish contracts is quite complex and you don't simply pay €18m and get the player. I understand there's VAT on top plus the selling club can also play silly beggars to frustrate the buyer a fair bit. Considering our dreadful relationship with Barcelona I can't see any deal for Thiago being sanctioned by them without a lot of problems. They may pave the way for the rags to sign Thiago as part of the on-going feud with them.

A fair point but you cannot rule Chelsea out on this one. Chelsea if they have to can pay a bit more extra than the rags and also London can play a part in the move.

We may want Thiago but United have been chasing him for years and want a Scholes replacement.
It would be a huge shock for us to get him ahead of United.

If he left Barca, and it's a big if, he'd be going one destination and it isn't that flea ridden shit hole- the culture alone that is being rooted down will begin to put us at the front of the line with regards these players, the spanish influence is just a bonus!

All indications are we've been on him for a while, too.

And that was before the barca boys were running the show.

Are you saying we are his "one destination"?
Current betting odds are 1.67 to United; 6.0 to us, 6.5 to Real and 7.0 to Bayern.
His main gripe is he is not getting played at Barca. Utd have a shortage of quality midfielders and also have his friend De Gea.
Dont get me wrong, I would be delighted if we get him, I just dont think we will!

You build teams around people like this and yes united makes sense but i'm 10/1 confident he will never play for them, the odds mean jack to be honest pal - if it becomes apparent that indeed he will leave , then city will be at the front of any decision!!!

To paraphrase.

City are close to Isco but also want Thiago. Not one or the other, both.

United and Chelsea been keeping tabs but so have City.

-- Wed Jun 19, 2013 3:45 pm --

Where would you play him?

It's game over for Rodwell, Milner and Garcia instantly. Maybe keep Rodwell but hardly value for money the amount he's injured.

Best move for the lad imo is Arsenal. Go there and then move in 3 years. Insist on having a buyout in the contract he signs so he can leave for City etc later on. Best move for gametime, development and future options.

I seem to remember that Tolmie posted that Txiki's realtionship with Thiago meant that if he were to move then City would be at the front of the queue or words to that effect.
