Why are people going on about getting rid of Barry? did you lot not see the 2011-2012 campaign? he was our most consistent player! we can't sign everybody then when they complain about a lack of football then say "oh well their model wife and 100 grand a week should keep them happy" Barry's still one of the better central midfielders in the league and he's English.

Barry is a liability, just like Lescott. Both should be retained for another two years but neither should be starters.

Barry has been one of our most consistent performers & he, plus Lescott had fewer shit games than Silva, Yaya, Nasri, Aguero, Kompany, etc etc.

It seems to be ok for some players not to turn up for half a season, but one bad game in 15 for Barry or Lescott & they become liabilities.

Pretty spot on this neither are starters anymore if we are seriously looking to win the title and compete in CL but great cover.

Why the smartarsed comment ?

If you've got something to add then fuckling argue the point instead of being a turd.

Do you think the players I listed performed consistently well last season ?

Which ones ?

Against most PL sides Barry, Lescott and even Kolarov could do the job for us. But we aren't talking about that level of quality are we? We're talking about building a squad and a first XI capable of winning the PL and the CL.

Would the ones mentioned above have a chance at CL competing Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, Dortmund, Chelsea or even the Rags?
No they would not, and they do represent a weakness to our side which needs strengthening. That doesn't mean Barry is shit (that he isn't), it just means we could get someone better and therefore we should.

Chances are though, that Barry and Lescott would probably be given starters at lower PL clubs so they might prefer to move on as opposed to staying put. Kolarov would surely be a highly valued member of most Italian starting XI's.

Can I just point out that we did actually win the Premier League with those two starting pretty much every game they were fit.

The best central defensive partnership we have had at City was VK & JL when in form imo & Mancini would pick Barry every game he was available, even when not fully fit. If someone is going to improve on Barry, they have to prove it at the deep end first, not just any random Spanish kid with a nice touch.

Similarly, if we lose Lescott & don't sign a proper beast defender, some people on here are going to get a right shock next season imo. 21 year old kids rarely last full seasons at CB in title winning teams, especially not in the Premier League.

See it this way.

Could Barry or Lescott improve?
Could Silva, Yaya, Nasri, Aguero and Kompany?

Imo no to the first and yes to the latter, great squad depth and 'easier' game starters but in important games and CL football its Nasty and Fernandinho who start ahead.

I have no idea who we will have come 1st September when we have to submit our 25 man squad to prem league for next season but in my opinion 99.999999999% certain Barry will be included. My understanding of this summers transfer window is to strengthen the squad we have not rip it apart. I do no agree with those saying there will be wholesale departures, again, I believe if we sign the six players on the so called Pellegrini list, only two players will have to make way to accomodate them. One is likely to be a striker the other is down purely to who Pellegrini thinks is up to the task. As for the merits of Barry and our team I have no problem whatsoever in Barry starting any prem league game, my reservations about him are all to do with CL games. Alcantara is a classy, young and extremely talented midfield player who will only get better and better and all for the crazy price of 15m. For me this transfer is an absolute no brainer, in fact I would prefer this signing over Cavani. How we play the new midfield players and keep them all happy and content is not my problem, that is down to the coach, who has been appointed because of his man management skills.
