I've seen people posting this so much so I just had to step in. Thiago Alcantara is by NO means a defensive player! If he came to City he would not replace Barry or Rodwell. He is more of an attacking player. Its only very recently that Tito Vilanova played him in a more defensive role in which he performed very poorly and made 2 or 3 fatal passes which lead to conceding goals.

Which leads back to the above post. These are top clubs with top managers and coaches. If none of these can see his real attributes, maybe they don't actually exist.

Thats like saying Isco isn't a top talent because Munich, Milan, Dortmund, Chelsea, United etc weren't seen to be linked with him. Thiago is a top player.

There is no doubt Thiago is a top player. But Munich have Gotze, Shaqiri, Kroos and Muller, Chelsea have Mata, Oscar, Hazard but United have Cleverlinho and Shrek. Thats why they supposedly want him. The funny thing is he would not be a good signing for them at all unless he makes a change in his playing style.

Anyway, Thiago is a very raw talent. He shows flashes of brilliance with his passing shooting and unpredictable dribbling in one game and then tries to do the impossible and makes mistakes in another. He needs a good coach to nurture him.

If Barca let him go its because they dont rate him highly enough.

I've seen him play in the European U21 in 2011, for Barcelona in their preseason and occasionally in the league over 2 years. I still believe he is a good player and thats why the prospect of him going to United is nauseating. He wouldn't do well around players so different and a coach with an awful tactical approach.

Didnt he start something like 13 games last season? So you might be able to tell us more about Alex Song. Would he be worth a punt?

He made quite a few sub appearances though. Song was deployed as a defender, was awful and then was benched for a long time. He was really good towards the end though.

You don't thinks its odd then that Barca by all accounts and media reports are prepared to let this kid go when its blatantly obvious that Iniesta/Xavi/Busquets at times and on a regular basis are starting to look jaded and are all ageing towards the end of there Barca careers? Xavi especially has not got long to go at 33 years of age and Iniesta is 30 on his next birthday.

As has already been said why have Europes top clubs not thrown there hat in the ring to sign him?

For all we know, us, Bayern, Dortmund, Chelsea and everyone else has gone to him with proposals that he has rejected because he wants to go to the rags.
