Things from Maine Road we wont see at Eastlands

My earliest memories of going to maine road with my dad (late 60s), The old soldier with one leg who used to look after the car by Alexandrer Park,
Calling in the tobaconist somewhere opposite the alexandrer cinema? where the old woman was always more interested in city than the old bloke,
The size of the police horses outside the ground & the smell of fag smoke & burgers,
Going through a different turnstyle to my dad & hoping I would find him again inside the ground,
The steep high steps at the back of the platt lane stand,
The brilliant green of the pitch in amongst all the dull streets & houses,
The wooden bench seats & the noise of the crowd,
Happy days, Thanks Dad.

turning the corner at Claremont Rd hoping to see BBC or ITV cameras.
barbed wire on top of the kippax wall.
Queues for the ticket office stretching to Platt Lane for a big game.
Guessing how many 1,000's would be knocked off the crowd for entertainment tax reasons.
The smallest Souvenir Shop ever?

In years to come what will kids say about Eastlands?

goalkeepers without gloves

the pieman wheeling his pies around the perimeter

the sight of hundreds of cigarettes/lighters at night matches

men forking the pitch at half-time

the ball being kicked out of the ground

The lads going round the pitch selling OXO...
playing with snow on the pitch..
seeing Stan the groundsman mowing the pitch
Jumping over the turnstyle to get in or climbing over the wall
Anyone ever see that big bath in the changing rooms ?? sooner wash in the sink it was a joke..
Putting metal plates with numbers on to show h/t scores...

that bloke in the main stand that used to shout as soon as the whistle went for kick off, "blow the final whistle".

kids crawling under the turnstile to get in
people halfway up the stantions in the kippax at packed games
barbwire on the top of segregation
trophies being paraded around the pitch

The 'Football Pink' and the printing wagon outside.

'Some guy' on the turnstile that would 'sort you out'.

The benches in the Platt Lane.

The half-time score thing with the letters and scores.

A programme you could put in your pocket.

Decent prices.

The name.

A smoke during the match.

David Pleat.

Disappearing into the Kippax crowd when a copper was looking for you...lol.
