They don't or didn't turn up due to ticket pricing. You don't run a games and price it out of the reach of ordinary people. This was the result of the IOC. They set the pricing. Offering out freebies is all well and good but if the will of the people isn't there then fuck all will happen. They didn't want it. They couldn't be arsed with it. Fair play. Apart from the football and a few other choice sports.
It's also a fucking expensive place to travel to. And it takes hours. Even from places inside Brazil. London had a hell of a fan base to draw from. Cycling is huge around Europe. So the stadium is filled with Europeans and us watching it. The same goes for Eastern Europe and weightlifting. Or wrestling. Horse dancing is popular in other countries. As is handball. Everyone likes tennis. So our venues filled up, and yes, we also gave out free tickets to school kids.
End result? Mostly full stadiums. With fans from all over the world. In Brazil we have seen pockets of visiting fans. Look at Bolt when he won. Ran towards the crowd and found 20 or so Jamaicans. In London there were hundreds dotted about.
Don't blame the Brazilian people. Blame their government and the IOC.
I agree the government and IOC are to blame but that was an issue before the games started, not what has pissed me off about the actual games.
As I said free event and ticket give aways still werent used, so that is the public, that just couldnt be arsed, their country was on display to the world and they acted like American swimmers in a petrol station bog.
There are a lot of ex pat Jamaicans living in Britain and London, why would more Jamacians travel much further to London than the relatively short trip in comparison to Brazil?
