London had a hell of a fan base to draw from. Cycling is huge around Europe. So the stadium is filled with Europeans and us watching it. The same goes for Eastern Europe and weightlifting. Or wrestling. Horse dancing is popular in other countries. As is handball. Everyone likes tennis. So our venues filled up, and yes, we also gave out free tickets to school kids. End result? Mostly full stadiums. With fans from all over the world.
Thought the Olympics was a protected event that had to be on a free to air channel.
I agree about Dan Walker, he was decent. That fucking Claire Balding thinks way too much of herself. Darren Campbell..........ggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......
There was also some annoying shouty arsehole on the diving.
On the whole, far, far too many shouty arseholes.
That's only seven shy of the number of children that Jimmy Savile abused during filming of the Top of the Pops ffs!455 staff over there!
Dan on BBC4 was good. He knew the bin men who worked on the beach at night by name after a few nights and they gave him a wave every time they went past. Anthony Worral-Thompson doing circuit training every night. Copacabarbecue. All quite light hearted and funny.BBC coverage. They need a complete root and branch overhaul of their sports presenters.
The vast majority of tickets for the London Olympics were sold to UK residents.
Mitt Romney (remember him?) said that London wasn't ready because of the problems with security and a substantial number of people who were planning to travel from places like the US decided against it because of concerns about terrorism.
Non-stop BBC happy clapping and half of every publically-funded news bulletin crammed with Olympic coverage to bury all the bad shit that goes on every day.
76% were sold to UK residents. That figure varied from venue to venue however as the cycling had only 40% UK fans watching. Even the 100 metres final had a 50/ 50 split in the fans in the stadium.
