Things to do in Bath (the city....)

It gets busy at times but worth a visit.

Get booking the Roman Baths. Late as possible. 9pm if you can.
Yeah - definitely the Roman Baths are on the itinerary for sure.

I don't get to see my son that often and he's struggling with anxieties at the moment, but we had an amazing bonding weekend in York a few months back so very keen to continue with trips like this.

The baths and a general schlep around, peppered with coffee/hot choc stops should be a treat.
Ghost walks sound good too (we did one in York which was fantastic).

That’s such a shame, I feel really sorry for anyone who’s uni time coincided with covid, they lost out on so much.

That’s the main reason why I’m happy my son chose Bath. He’s not had the best of times at school and sixth form, and covid didn’t help with that either. Of all we looked around, Bath had the most welcoming feel and Uni, from my own experience, is so much more than just the course, I could really see him enjoying it there and hopefully getting the life experience too. It just had a vibe to it that neither he or I didn’t get from any of the others (Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham were his other offers).
He has such happy memories of the place.

What’s your lad looking to study?

Before he went I wasn’t aware how well regarded it is for sciences in particular. Widely regarded as the best outside Oxford and Cambridge for degrees in those subjects. He had a chance to go to Oxford but I don’t think he’d have enjoyed it anywhere near as much, which hopefully gives you an idea of how much we feel he got from his time there.

So in short, I’d definitely recommend. Nothing’s guaranteed of course, but I’d say it was the safest bet out there.

He’s doing business studies with marketing with a placement year for the third year, was surprised how high the salary was for placements and the percentage that go back to the same companies after they finish the degree, which was another selling point.

Found the same for business courses as you say for science, it’s ranked fifth in the country for them. Oddly, all the other unis I mentioned had higher grade requirements as Bath was the only one that recognised his core maths, so he needs AAB to get in (all the rest were AAA).

Interesting what you write about Oxford, I have a few friends that went there and only one of them stayed for the duration, the rest changed unis.

I’m really pleased with his choice, and I really hope he throws himself into it, like I said he’s not had the best of times socially in particular at school or college and covid really didn’t help. He’s currently backpacking round Europe and that seems to be giving him his confidence back a bit, hoping Uni will add to that too.

Only downside is it’s a bit of a trek to get there but all the more reason to stay down a bit longer when we visit! :)

^^ On the trekking mention, it's looking like the trains are cancelled that weekend :(

Was looking forward to the journey down (making it part of the trip). I'm currently without a car (see my Qs on the car threads) and looking at leasing atm. Not sure I'm going to sort that within two weeks.

Can borrow the exes I guess.

Hire one for the weekend.

Hope your lad enjoys it much as mine and I hope you enjoy visiting him as much as I did mine.
