Its down to 2 different mind sets.

1. Ive paid my money so i'll do what i want. And nobody tells me when to sing. ( these people join in sometimes )

2. I'm going to the match and i want to be part of the crowd, where me and my mates have a great time, let off steam and get behind my team for 90 minutes. ( also before the game in the pub and maybe after.)

Maybe it follows how people are in life in general. I imagine the fans in scenario 2 will be like that from the time they meet their mates, to getting home at night. Scenario 1 fans are there to watch the game, getting there and back is just a pain that has to be endured, which can be relieved slightly by leaving early

Load of bollocks really.

I think that, as a way of supporting the team on the pitch, it is actually pretty shit.

It is noise yes, but just noise. Once everything becomes that choreographed, then it becomes less about supporting the team and more about making themselves look good.

Their chants don't change to take mood of who just had a good run, or shot, or that the ref is a fucking bell end. It is simply a (very well rehearsed and pretty to look at) stage show, for me at any rate.

So the bloke who stands all game with his arms folded, one rendition of blue moon and a couple of "come on City" is the sort that others call "the life and soul of the party" I'm only saying that if you are generally not outgoing, then that is probably what your like at the game. Unless you know a lot of people who change from Trigger to Jim Carey for 90 minutes once a week. ;)
