Good idea mate. I'd be willing to go and spend a couple of hours picking up litter in the City centre with fellow Bluemoon'ers. And there is where it has to start. People bitching about the problem but doing nothing won't change anything. What if all the actual Manchester based posters here met up on a Sunday morning armed with trash bags and walked a block area picking up as much trash as they could. Others would see that and I think would volunteer. A problem as big as this needs to be addressed by the residents of their own area.
I know it's not a city issue in BFI but here volunteers look after sections of the highway, Family safety network do a mile just sou.
th of town, a church ward the next and so on. In the spring when the snow finally melts you'll see hundreds of people down the sides of the road picking up rubbish, they bag it and a truck comes by and takes it all to the dump. I understand Manchester has more people than the whole state of Idaho but I really think it could work. If you're really proud of your City then do something.
I await the ridicule
They don`t have an option. ;)Do the people of Moscow show a bit more respect to their environment and fellow citizens?
That was kinda where I was going. They don`t have an option. ;)
If only we were stronger at dishing out punishment. They don`t have an option. ;)

I meant adults to their kids as well as.It's got nothing to do with dishing out punishment it's an education thing. The older generation were brought up to put things in bins. Keep the place tidy. And then the bins were removed due to the IRA/ Bomb threats. Cue rubbish being dumped anywhere. The bins are back. The attitude to dumping is still the same. Plus the bins are never emptied. There's no public toilets. Bars are open longer. It all adds up.
Educating the scrotes who do it, installing a sense of civic pride would go a long way to sorting it out.

I would say whoever has told him that, is talking complete bollocks.A mate of mine had to do some community service and was expecting to be sent out with a bin bag. They were given something else to do and when he said he expected to pick up litter he was told by one of the supervisors that they can’t make people pick up litter as it would go against their human rights or some bullshit

I remember a couple of years ago sat in my car in a London suburb. I can't remember where exactly, but there was a nearby KFC. I noticed an Asian women, probably mid 20's get in to an opposite parked car with 2 bags of food. Around 20 minutes later the bags and contents were flung out of the car before they drove off. Chicken bones boxes napkins cups etc blowing a out in the street. I picked up the rubbish and binned it less than 20m away. She was a parent, so I guess her kids will do the same.Absolute cunts who throw litter out of the car window. I notice it around my way when I go for a walk/run. McDonald’s bags and take away coffee cups that have been launched out of cars.I
Despite my liberal tendencies, I tend to turn into a crypto-fascist around anti-social behaviour like this, perpetrated by selfish, lazy and inconsiderate cunts.
The law around littering should be fortified and enforced with offenders being forced to clear litter up for a double-digit number of hours for their first offence, increasing exponentially thereafter. Looking at the state of litter at the side of some of our busiest roads, would suggest there isn’t any shortage of work for them to do.
Restorative justice writ large.
Anyone who feels inclined to drop their litter is a **** regardless of their surroundings.....you may be right thoughThere has to be a "vicious circle" element to this. Obviously no one should be littering anywhere or at any time, but I suspect some feel more inclined to do it when the place is already looking like a shit tip. As with the story of the guy in Dusseldorf earlier in this thread, no one wants to be the first arsehole to drop litter in a place that's looking pristine.
