This Cesspit of a City

Sorry mate , I was being sarcastic. This City has been under Labour control forever but any problems they blame the big bad Tories, the council are allowing the City centre to sink in its own filth & your guess is as good as mine as to why .
Homelessness has reached epic proportions country wide though mate. Crass to try and politicise it, these are human beings you are point scoring off not Rags

It's the sheer amount of homeless people that's the worst part for me.
It wasn't like this 4 or 5 years ago
Homelessness has been a factor of the city since Victorian times but they had a lower profile in the past from what I remember. The begging zombies we have now we’ve never seen before like this.

You can walk through any area (other than maybe Greengate, Spinningfields and Castlefield) and be asked for money and when you say no they see their arse with you. Then you walk around the next corner there’ll be someone on their knees, gritting their teeth, eyes flickering, making weird noises... spiced up to fuck. Or two streets down there’ll be two having a sort-of-fight. And on the next block one will be throwing up right there on the pavement.

You’re right it wasn’t like this even five years ago.

What we’ve got now as well is the homeless coming to Manchester to be homeless here. I’ve heard an array of accents in Town. Look at the video in this article https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...r-news/its-6am-homeless-people-leave-14357474
The two people interviewed are non-Mancs.

There’s also a number of begging immigrants. They seem to have come over here with no skills, can’t speak the language, they’re just refugees, and they are sat by ATMs with a paper cup and that’s now their life.

It has unquestionably got worse in the last five years.

Not just Manchester. Homelessness has got discernibly worse in every place I regularly visit in England and Wales.
Just walked outside Bridgewater Hall towards Rain Bar. Two sleeping in the doorway next to the canal, must have had a late night. Then walked across to the Paramount and one has left his bag on the ground with his dog tied to it blocking the pavement!

Had to email the council today regarding Bogart O clough. Bins overflowing, a smashed mirror across the path and other general litter, seeing as it’s a haven for dog walkers and young kids you’d think they’d keep on top of it, won’t hold my breath though.
I hope you spelt it correctly (Boggart Hole Clough) in your email, otherwise they might think you're reporting an Irish fella whose parents were big fans of this bloke...

Wonder what the council will do when people stop coming in to town to go to restaurants, or pubs or shows because it’s unsightly & unpleasant to take your wife or family there .
Shoppers may go elsewhere & businesses as well, this town is on a slippery path, personally I pass through on match days & have a drink but I can’t wait to get out of the place after the match

Watched a programme on telly last night about acid atacks and London gangs - moped robberies etc.

Seems like the UK is heading for lawlessness. 95% of robberies go undetected. That's staggering. A green light for them all.

Throwing acid at someone is fucking unforgiveable. Just for a mobile fucking phone.

Very good post mate

What a depressing read. I didn’t realise that things had got so bad in my old stomping ground.
I haven’t been back for 6 years now , but I can’t remember it being as bad as you guys describe in this thread , maybe it’s got a lot worse recently.
I’m not far off retiring and I was really looking forward to many trips back , primarily to watch the blues.... not sure I’ll bother now.
Obviously very lucky to live where I do.

It's not as bad as reading this would infer, it has it's rough spots and plenty of dumps but i doubt it's much different to what it was like in the 70's and 80's, we've just all become a right bunch of moaning old farts...........

Correct pal hate the town centre it’s really disgusting what worries me is my daughter is 14 what’s it going to be like when she’s going clubbing or has her own children, the problem is only going to get worse I’m afraid, I feel sorry for travellers on the tram on a night time journey it’s really intimidating at times with groups of lawless youths getting on pissed abusing everyone and smashing the trams up it really is becoming like escape from New York sad to see the way our beautiful city has gone

Two homeless guys passed out lying on each other, with a dog out cold on top of them in a doorway near waterstones this afternoon.

Fuck knows what the dog had been on.

It's horrendous traveling upto Oldham late on.

If me & Mrs Moon go out these days we're back early evening, trams are a disgrace.

Only time I'm out late is after footie wouldn't subject a lady to the shit I see late on.

They.won't.though, Manchesters.reputation outside of it's residents is as an upcomimg city, the council don't give a fuck if the locals come in, as it is getting visitors from all over, add to that failsworth pole and the numpties from shaw now frequent the printworks since the tram same tameside folk from ashton, droyslden etc, and new islington is a city within a city of shoreditch and camden types.

Manchester doesn't need it's populace, who see how neglected it is to keep it going, that is why when other major northern cities pints of beer average £3 and rents are lower, we have over inflated prices on everything

Today the greenery has been cut down in the gardens. Assuming as this is where the knives and drugs were generally being stashed. Also, someone set the tables and planters outside Shoryu on fire.

Lovely.

New York was a hellhole nobody would visit in the 70’s, we’re heading that way , we need to have a look at how they turned it round . Not sure we’ve got the will or bollocks to do what’s needed though.
