This Cesspit of a City

It’s not as bad as it was. I’d genuinely fear for my safety in a rock t-shirt and baggy jeans. I was attacked several times when I lived in Longsight.

Manchester is certainly less Manc now. Almost all of my old circle have left.

The inevitability of how the world is going.

I’d never ask anyone for money. I’d walked from town to Moston or Failsworth before.

In my last trip, I had someone roar at me out of a van window, an old man give me a disgusting death stare, a red scrote give me grief in a pub (all City related) and a man in a tracksuit wouldn’t take his eyes off me in a cafe. All in 48 hours. It’s completely unnecessary. Just leave people be. There is an arrogance and a confrontational attitude to the city. Always has been.

The manc accent
The simian stroll
The general moody demeaner of Mancs

Is all very confident and sure, this can look like aggresion or imtimidating, but mainly most in our city are friendly and welcoming.

Manchester also does bellendery well and acting the ****, comes from that cocky mindset.
If ypu don't bother dickheads normally they won't bother you.
Only trouble I have had in 10 years has been with out of towners being dicks.

And thus it always was...OOT divs

I think one huge problem is a lack of decent affordable accommodation.
That programme one of the earlier posters mentioned showed that there is plenty of safe places and hostels for people to go and get help and get there head down. If they’re off their tits then I’ve got no sympathy at all, I know people have their problems but they’re generally self inflicted and we should be locking the bellends up.

Costs too much to lock them all up ....give them a nice bedsit and a decent paid job.

Not the spice heads...they can go and live in Stoke.

No I haven't and I am in town about 6am., and have seen a few of the aggresive ones first thing arguing with thselves, bit most of these have addictions and possible mental health issues, they should be in care not on the streets.
I also see one bloke who comes into town every morning on the bus and buses it home about 4, fellas been doing it for years.

It is probably because I see the same ones everyday I know which are alright to interact with and which are a bit narky.
There are a few that you see at City games.

At the gates on Alan Turing Way by the big old gas whatsanameit at the back of the big car park, every home game there seems to be a different bloke sat on the floor, scruffed up, blanket over legs, asking for money every game but they all use the same dog.

I won’t give them money because I know they’re sharing that dog between them each game to get a bit of sympathy.

I’ve seen one of them a few times now and I’ve ignored him previously but now he recognises me so tries to interact. He’s always aggressive and always swears at me every time I walk past him saying something like; “here he is, fucking big man in his posh suit*, too good to give me some change!”

*sometimes I come straight from work so have a suit on

Cheeky fucker, feel like taking the dog off the **** and giving it to a kennels to be re-homed.

Thats certainly true. There’s a shortage of both affordable housing and social housing (which are two different things but people often just band together as affordable housing).

Is it only me that loves the city centre ? Can’t say I’ve ever felt intimidated once.
I’ve never felt intimidated, just fed up of the mess.

The worst things for me are the terrible running of the refuse collection and how bin bags are just strewn everywhere leaving bin juice all over the place, chewing gum on pavements and across the city as a whole the total lack of keeping streets clean full stop with weeds over growing everywhere and fly tipping being a huge problem. Litter is everywhere across the conurbation.

Also things like five foot high grass growth at roundabouts where you can’t see what’s coming from the right. Drives me up the fucking wall that does but it seems to be no **** is employed to cut these grass verges or hedges anywhere across the city. Nobody is out cleaning the streets. No businesses are out cleaning the footfall outside their business.

But this is what I’d give these homeless the opportunity to have a job. Give them accommodation for cleaning the streets, de-weeding and cutting back overgrown hedges and trees.

THIS. A lot of them are vermin and that’s why I’m not running the risk of doling out money. I give generously to my chosen charities and help out my local community and I’m comfortable with this. If some spice/smack/crack head wants to shout abuse at me that’s cool.

Jesus, I didn't realise creatures like you still existed. What utter bollocks
Evening Jess Phillips!

I’ve volunteered at homeless shelters for 7 years now and I’d wager I know more than you. Twat. I also volunteer at st Christopher’s hospice in south London and Scope in Croydon, south London.

I know the coup sunshine and I bet I do more than you. Austerity is a fucking myth.

I’ve lived in Ashton most of my life, still some nice surrounding areas and it’s generally friendly but it’s suffering badly from the current economic climate, there’s plenty of reasons but the PC brigade would get upset if identified.

Yeah, i've lived there for almost 2 years up near the colleges.

Really going down hill, if that market went nobody will both going to Ashton i dont think
