This Myth About Nigel De Jong

Well we did need to sell him to be fair.

He wanted out and we had to get something back to help towards that ffp crap.

Well i keep hearing he wanted out so i'm working with that being true.

But we ndidn't get anything back to help the FFP cap. We lost 30 mil in the deal. We got 5 mil for him but needed to spend 15 for Rodwell and 20 for Garcia. So we ended up -30 in the deal. Keep him and use that 35 mil on a quality player or not at all.

How much was he after do we know ?

Personally i think we should have kept him, faster than most give credit for and does the job of two defensive mids imo.
Towards the end of last season he was used a lot more and helped a hell of a lot i think.

He could get forward when needed and could pick a pass to.

Not that Garcia and Barry are crap, not at all, Garcia has been finding his feet and is a solid player imo.
Same for Barry being a a solid player but i still think we miss De Jong.

That said he is gone now so onwards and upwards :)
He wanted more than 100,000 a week the contract offer was made after we won the fa Cup all our contracts are done in the summer. He had a year to negotiate a new contract after we started playing really well and not needing him there was no way the board were going to increase that offer. He rejected the initial contract offer over wages not because he was not playing regularly because if it was about playing time he would have signed the initial contract offer the summer after we won the FA cup.

Bit time player, loveable charcater and fighter but nowhere near as important to the title winning last year as some people like to think.

Everyone in the squad was important.

Getting fed up of all this talk about one of the main reasons
we are where we are in the league this year is due to the sale of NDJ.
What utter rubbish.
De Jong was a bit time player for us last year just like Balotelli was.
People are making out that this guy was the main reason why we became champions
He was in his last year of his contract and we moved him on.
Was not poor but was not great either.

People go on about he only played a few games last year and wasn't that important, when we were flying at the start of the year we could do without him, but was more to do with his injury in the 1st game against Swansea, therefore change of system, and we banged 4 goals in 30 mins, so Barry kept his place(and had the season of his life) But when we were playing poorly he made the difference and let Yaya do his stuff, NDJ(and Tevez) MADE THE DIFFERENCE, when we needed it. NDJ gave confidence to the defence and let Yaya push forward, and Tevez led by example which lifted the team!

So no myth, yes he's gone, lets get over it, but who's getting the best out of the team now? Garcia? Rodwell? Watch the games and try and understand the bigger picture!

Exactly right.

For the people saying ''he only played 11 games last season'', your logic is floored, why do you think he played so little? here's why....

Teams sat back, didn't have the bottle to attack us. No one knew what we were like back then, whenever they decided to have a pop we hit them for 4 or 5. We scored goals for fun and even then we had SOME width, not alot but enough and it broke teams down. Therefore he wasn't required to play in most games.

So what's the difference between now and then?

We've been found out, easy to defend against and looked very fragile at times at the back. We've got away with murder all season and teams have thought why not have a go at City. Some teams it paid off for them and some others it didn't. Apart from maybe 2 or 3 teams every team now comes at us and we aren't used to it. We lose midfield battles 70% of games and we look so UNORGANISED it's frightening, this is where we've been found out. The team isn't drilled or effective enough against teams who play with pace or a high tempo, we run around like headless chickens.

So why would he be a key figure now?

Teams come at us, teams with pace beat us all over the pitch. Midfield is steam rolled 80% of the season and we can hardly afford to push Yaya on, why? Barry and Garcia aren't quick enough. Jordan Henderson ran the game against Liverpool, Jordan fucking Henderson.

How many games would NDJ play this season?

95% easily, how many has Garcia played? take him out and stick NDJ in. He would have played almost every game. NDJ WOULD have made a difference in the following... Dortmund, Southampton, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea, Ajax, Everton. I could carry on and that's just off the top of my head. there are PLENTY MORE...

This season we would have needed him more than ever, how many games he played LAST SEASON is completely irrelevant. We sold NDJ and i kissed goodbye our midfield presence and CL campaign.

Say whatever you like, the season he was key. We fucked up selling him and he was worth that extra cash, Mancini dropped a bollock and blew £35mill on no replacements.

Name the last side we bossed and domination a midfield, against a pacey and quick side ...good luck, you'll be here all night.

We miss him, our midfield is no longer alive. When required HE made the difference in them crunch games, the big games he performed.

FACT.

Your point freestyle is flawed, you say he didn't play much because we dominated games last year so he wasnt needed yet say we should have kept him because now we aren't.

What if we had been 12 points clear playing great football like we did last season with De Jong having played 4-5 games and contributing not a lot like last year both Mancini and Marwood would have been slated for not selling him and instead having him sat on the bench winding his contract down.

Yes in hindsight we probably should have kept him but at the time we had no idea we was going to have teams like QPR and Southampton come at us and get points. Yoiu can't blame Mancini thinking why should I change a winning formula.

It is only now that it isnt working that people are flapping and saying we should have kept Johnson and De Jong.

How?

We hardly even had to go out to dominate games, we were ALLOWED to. Everyone sat back, see where we're going now?

I'm saying when we played teams who attacked we struggled and made the difference, he didn't play much but when he did in them games required he changed it. It was clear to see the impact he made and how he dominated and calmed the game down.

So now when the tough get's going he's no longer around to solve that problem. Also it has knock on effect with Yaya, he can't be pushed on like he used to be.

Why did Mancini sell him replace? probably thought we didn't need him. But we do, now who have we got? Garcia, Rodwell. 2 unimpressive signings at best.

NDJ would have been a key player now, we get attacked more often now. Our midfield as gone, even when he didn't start he was an option from the bench.

Every player needs an NDJ type player, when we need him more than ever he's not here.

And i for one aren't one of the people saying we need him back now he's gone. I was GUTTED when he went and i still am.

I fear for our midfield this season is games against pacey and quick teams. I was right to worry, bossed, bullied, dominated. Chasing shadows, Barry is getting on and Garcia runs in glue.

Nigel's appearances were also curtailed by injury.

I think you need to look the word FACT up in a dictionary because last time I looked im sure it didn't say "An NDJ fans wet dream"<br /><br />-- Sat Feb 16, 2013 11:18 am --<br /><br />
