This Myth About Nigel De Jong

As I said in a different thread, De Jong's influence on our football last season has been greatly exaggerated since he left. He played less that half of our Premier League games last season and the ones he did play, he wasn't exactly sublime.

We offered him a contract but he turned it down because he wanted consistent first team football and he wasn't going to get that at City.

We didn't need to sell him. So he turned down the contract offer. We only got 5 mil for him. SHould have let him finish out his contract and walk at the end. Instead we wasted 35 mil to replace him. Neither one is better player than NJD and one is injured 80% of the time. THe issue isn't that NDJ was the greatest player. It's that neither of the replacements are as good and the team 35 cost the team 35 mil that they will never recoup. Restricting what the team will be able to do in the future.

NDJ didn't play every game but he was a great clubhouse guy and this team is sorely missing that team spirit this year. He kept the club loose. That stuff is important and sometimes is overlooked.

there's no myth, featured in every game in our run in to the title after the arsenal match (a match in which he did'nt feature)
should have paid what he was asking for, which would have proberbly been cheeper than garcia

Exactly. We could have used the 35 mil for NDJ's wages.

Well we did need to sell him to be fair.

He wanted out and we had to get something back to help towards that ffp crap.

Well i keep hearing he wanted out so i'm working with that being true.

He only wanted to leave because the club wouldn't pay him what he wanted/deserved.
We could've used some of the 35m we spent on replacements on his wage.

He also didn't feature in 12 other matches including the 1-6 and 1-5
the myth is that since he left he is suddenly the greatest player to ever play for City. Also that he bled blue but it didn't stop him asking to leave

How much was he after do we know ?

Personally i think we should have kept him, faster than most give credit for and does the job of two defensive mids imo.
Towards the end of last season he was used a lot more and helped a hell of a lot i think.

He could get forward when needed and could pick a pass to.

Not that Garcia and Barry are crap, not at all, Garcia has been finding his feet and is a solid player imo.
Same for Barry being a a solid player but i still think we miss De Jong.

That said he is gone now so onwards and upwards :)
