De-jong is a big miss in our squad, as is Adam Johnson!
The fact of the matter is neither were good enough to hold down a starting place, but they were excellent back up players. Neither were happy being back up, so have left for first team football. Its very hard for a club to keep players in their situation happy for any log period.
Our plan B is weaker this season, compared to last, which ultimately makes us weaker in general!
I think the De-jong debate in-particular, seems to be confusing people.
De-jong has probably never won us a game, but he has been crucial in seeing us through tough games.
De-jong and Johnson would both have been huge assets to us this season.
I understand why they left, but their replacements aren't up to the standard.

I am baffled how you can even deny how crucial he was especially at the end of the season when Mancini brought him on to allow Yaya to push forward. I never said he was the only reason we won the title but he sure as hell played a big part in it. Like I said, bless you.

He had become a squad player, like AJ, but squads win titles. Arguably our squad players aren't quite so good at the moment as Maicon and Rodwell been injured and AJ, De Jong were performing better than Sinclair and Garcia. Garcia has come good, but it took until January

de Jong is out with a long term injury, and I think there could be doubts when he does comeback he will not be the same player. Even though it has temporarily weakened our squad by selling him, for the long term it was best to cash in at the start of the season.

This is exactly what I was thinking.
When people blame the sale of De Jong for our form this seasson they are kind of right, but the main problem was the replacement.

If we'd bought in Arturo Vidal instead of Garcia then everyone would be praising our good business.
