This Stoke defeat?

Simply need to learn to switch formations to suit teams like Stoke camping out in their box, teams know how to stifle us when we tippy tappy it around outside the box.. Mere blip and nothing else

In effectual up front and only two shots on target says it all with 73 per cent of possession and alot of it in their back half.

No cutting edge , navas and dzeko might have made a difference.

Sucker punch a bit like rope a dope in 74 in Zaire.

It happens Stoke did the better tactically and Leslie had one of his better days which he was due against one of his old sides.

Stoke when they go to QPR will probably get battered (LOL).

Anyone got a theory on this? We dominate possession but concede an incredibly high amount of fouls. I noticed it last season too. Are we too physical? Too slow? Or is it just referees being too quick to punish us?

Eagerness to win the ball back as our game is all about possession, you'll probably find that Barca's stats follow a similar pattern.

We averaged 10.2 fouls per game last season, which was the 15th highest in the league i.e. Most teams committed more fouls; although the spread from highest to lowest was less than 4 fouls per game.

Barca committed one foul per game more than us but was still the fewest in the league so your theory is crap :-)

Clearly our average is higher in the first three games but it is too soon to say if that is a trend or blip.

I do think though that we have been consistently guilty of conceding too many cheap fouls.

Were not entitled to win any game and this defeat was poor however half our players still don't look fit and as ever when playing Stoke/Sunderland or teams of that ilk we have no PLAN B when we can't get a goal.
It happened a lot under RM.

Not so much a theory, I was just throwing it out there as a suggestion?

If your stats are correct then it's obviously not that so it's back to the drawing board.

We have had spells in the last year where we have done that, and put ourselves under pressure that we wouldn't have been under because we were otherwise dominating the game, it happened a bit at Newcastle and In The first half against Liverpool.

Funny thing was, when that Stoke lad was running at us for the goal, I was shouting 'don't foul him!' To our players. That's what got them the goal, the fact that we didn't want to give away a free kick. I reckon that Pellegrini had warned them not to get caught with a foot in and give away dangerous set pieces, and it ended up costing us three points.

One point DD but I get your gist.

It might have had something to do with not wanting to be sent off and being blamed for any subsequent loss.
