This team won't be considered great until...

Would you consider the current (5 years including this season) Real Madrid team to be great? they have won 3 European cups narrowly lost one semi final and have also reached the semi final this season.

Pep's Barca only won it twice with two losing semi finals.

Peps Barca are labeled Great but I feel most people wont say the same about Mardrid even if they win the CL again this year.

So IMO this shows it's about how you win the trophies. To be condidered Great we have to play football that entertains and the casual follower can admire.

We have though had a great season. I hope we finish the job and get 100 points and beat the goals scored recored.

(I think we'll finish on 97 points and score about 105 goals.)
 
To be very frank about it currently this City team won’t get talked about as one of the great sides, we are awesome on our day and play brilliant football but that doesn’t warrant us being talked about as great
There is only 2 that can be considered great really
Think what Liverpool did, think it was 5 out of 7 league titles with 4 European cups thrown in around the same time
Then United treble side around the time they won nearly every title and plenty of doubles. This run of games has made me look at that treble with a bit more respect, imagine we’d best Wigan we would have had Liverpool twice in QFs then a title decider then an FA cup semi at the weekend, our players look knackered right now
I would say after this season we need to win 2 of next 3 PLs and a CL to be talked about as one of the best sides ever
 
The treble in 99 will never happen again, United only had Arsenal chasing them, now there are 5/6 strong teams in the league even the lower teams play harder. To win the champions league I think you have to sacrifice the other competitions. For example against the rags should have been a second string giving everyone a week off who was going to play in the second leg against Liverpool, it will never happen of course and that’s why playing the intestity we do I don’t think we will win it.

This current City side would wipe the floor with both those successful teams, they didn't have anything like the opposition we have swept aside this season, in terms of trophies won, its a no brainer but in terms of the way we have played and the style of play, you have to acknowledge that this is a great team, not as successful yet, granted, but great nonetheless in my opinion..! I think the last few weeks have clouded some people's assessment of the team, i am just as disappointed about the rags n dippers results but we played both off the park at times, in all 3 games..

You put our best 11 out on their best day and I agree we give anyone a game, the discussion is about what will make us be considered great And mythical matchups won’t do it

The treble United side had to beat a very good Arsenal to the title and in FA cup semi final and a Juventus team that had David’s and Zidane In and I don’t feel we’ve beaten anyone this season who are as good as those 2 sides so I feel your comment about them not having to beat the opposition we have swept aside this season is wrong

Again I’ll say it’s just basing it on what we would need to do to be considered great
 
Fair enough but what is the distinction between a great team and a successful team, or are they one and the same ...

Can a club be deemed to have no history if they have not won anything in modern times, despite being around for over 100 years +

Or am I just talking myself in knots :-)

The History one is a joke, the modern fan does see it as PL era and it’s so arrogant it winds me up
I’m only 39 but would never dream of telling an Everton Forest Villa Newcastle Preston fan they had no history, in fact I wouldn’t say it to the supporter of any club
History is history not trophies won, I just tell United Fans it’s like Madrid fans saying United has no history if you base it on cups won

They never used to mention history or empty seats when we were shit, funny how they’ve found something else now isn’t it :)

Indeed it is mate, like you it boils my blood, one of my mates is a Notts County fan, not many clubs with more history than them, fuck has he been put through the ringer this past 50 years, he still goes to every home game though, woe betide anyone hittting him with the no history Jibe, carnage would ensue
