Re: This weekends other Prem Games
That was some truly shite refereeing in the Liverpool v West Ham game.
Firstly the West Ham goal shouldn't have stood, and then the 2nd penalty was never a penalty.
My issue with the referee isn't so much with the West Ham goal but with the Liverpool penalty. Don't get me wrong, the West Ham goal was absolutely awful officiating, it was clearly a foul and should have been a freekick. However, ultimately, it was a refereeing mistake. Mistakes happen, and football teams appreciate, and accept, that at times the officials will make mistakes which hurt them. The Liverpool penalty however wasn't a mistake, it was a predetermined action by the referee. He'd clearly been made aware, and maybe even seen, just how bad the decision was for the West Ham goal, and he came out in the second half determined to "right a wrong" and give Liverpool something. The first chance he had to even it up, he took it. It wasn't a foul, the referees position at the time was such that he had absolutely no way of seeing what had happened, so he gave it to Liverpool because he knew he'd made a mistake and cost them a goal earlier. That's not a mistake, that's cheating. Pure and simple. Teams don't accept, and shouldn't have to accept, that referees will actively seek to cheat them. It was hugely unfortunate for Liverpool that they'd suffered from a bad decision, but guess what, they had and the referee should have just accepted he'd fucked up and made the decision to officiate the rest of the game to the best of his ability. He didn't, he cheated. Unacceptable.
