Vertonghen has been superb, especially given he's in an unfavoured position,i think some see only what they wish to see.
He's played left back many times for club and especially country.

As well as centre half and defensive midfielder,a fantastic squad man.

-- 20 Oct 2012 14:41 --

He's been appalling at ball retention.

I counter that with superb interceptions and last man challenges.

We missed a good un.
We sidestepped a landmine.

Did you miss our recent incomings?

That's why Del Bosque chooses Silva over Mata for Spain.

Silva offers more than Mata, he is an out and out creative player, Mata is a number ten or a false nine, he will throw a few creative bursts in but overall he is a sort of second striker.

Mata suits Chelsea better, and works well playing alongside Oscar and Hazard with 1 striker up front, mata provides the extra goal threat and also means RDM does n't have to play Fat Frank.

Nasri suits us better, the only problem at the moment is his lack of winner's attitude, everytime a sign a quality midfielder on Fifa 13 he moans about being replaced, a reflection of his real life counter part. Man up you daft ****, practise your free kicks and stop being a wimp in challenges all the time. I though he started the season better than Silva so lets hope keeps up the good work.

No Nasri doesn't suit us better. Had Mata been playing here, I guarentee you wouln't be saying that. Nasri isn't very good and at the end of the day was a bad signing. Apart from the odd glimpse, he has been poor. Nasri isn't world-class, Mata is.

Mata scored 1 more goal and made 4 more assists but he also played 3 more league games and was his teams main creative outlet, Nasri was n't. Mancini wants to play 2 forwards and 2 false wingers, Nasri is better suited to the inside forward position than Mata and Like I said the only problem with Nasri is his mentality, when has Mata not looked arse. Nasri was close to Mata's stats last season when he was n't at his best.

Whilst we're on the subject of Chelsea, I really wonder where all the bigheads and big mouths from the 'Chelsea v Reading' thread of a few weeks back are?

Now that your 'they haven't played anyone yet' argument is well and truly destroyed, I'm so excited to hear your next line of argument.

Am also particularly interested to see whether it's still to early to say Hazard is a great player? Should we wait another 8 games before we do that? Wait until he's played against a 'good team'?

Whoever finishes above these will win the league. Fact.
Let's see how good they are next week against the Manchester United team.

Sounds exactly the same as everyone talking about us last season before we went and humiliated United in their own back yard. And we all know how that turned out in the end.

They now have the same amount of points after 8 games as we did last season. They've beaten Arsenal at Arsenal (who we couldn't beat at home), and now Spurs at WHL.

The touch for the equalizer was fantastic... Even his missed passes had purpose, His teammates often not making the obvious run.

Best Spurs defender on show. Simply another missed opportunity by City.

David Silva created 106 chances for his teammates at City last season. That was #1 in the Prem ahead of EVERYONE!

Mata scores more goals but he's in the box more. At City it infuriates me when every shouts "shoot" (when there are three men between him and the goal) "why doesn't he fucking shoot?"!

Totti had a better goals/game ratio than Zidane in his career but who was the better player?

Nobody is man marked in the Prem as much as David is.

No one is saying Mata is better than Silva, but over the last 9 months, who has played better?

Mata is a goal threat while Silva looks scared to shoot. Look at his penalty against S'Ton, He just doesn't look comfortable shooting the ball. Mata has been playing better than Silva and that is true.

Mata had been always a Striker/2nd striker, Silva isn't.

Not difficult when you're playing alongside the likes of Walker and Gallas.

& I though Chelsea will not compete this season because they need time to blend and now each other !
