Thomas Tuchel | England Manager

How could anyone think Tuchel is a suitable appointment? His teams are just standard block and counter attack with a couple of zippy forwards."Tuchel has won 11 trophies during his coaching career. His most impressive single season was arguably in 2019/20, when he led PSG to a domestic quadruple and a first Champions League final, where they lost to Bayern."

Not a judgment on whether Tuchel is the right man, but I’m really not arsed where he’s from. You play by the rules of the game. The rules allow foreign coaches so if we can get an edge there then do it. For the London Olympics in 2012, Team GB had British-only coaches in just 3 sports out of the 26 we competed in. That continues to be prevalent and I don’t think anybody has ever been arsed about it.

Do other countries hire foreign managers? Often no, they don’t. Does that matter? No, not really. When have we ever said “Oh no, we better not do that, the French aren’t doing that.” Probably the least English sentiment I’ve ever heard. Proper herd mentality stuff. Frankly fuck what anybody else does.

The bottom line is that international football is generally shite anyway, so it’s going to make very little difference to my life.

Injuries to City players apart, fully concur with last sentence.

Absolutely this, will be hated no matter what. Such is the norm nowadays.

I’m happy with this appointment, won league titles abroad , won champions league - FA always accused of lacking ambition with appointments, proving those wrong again.

Good appointment.
It's a weird one in that the same people who think having an English Manager is important are often the same people who think England should win every tournament we enter - Daily Mail Sports Writers I am looking at you!

Evidence and logic suggest these two things are incompatible.

No English Manager has ever won the Premier League in it's 30 year history, and I don't think any English Manager has ever won the Champions League. So what is the logic for thinking that an English manager would be good enough to win The World Cup or European Championship?

You can choose one or the other, either an English Manager who can sing the National Anthem with gusto to keep the Gammons happy, or a top-notch foreign manager with a proven record of winning trophies at the very highest level.

If we are going to choose an English manager based on Nationality then next demand from will probably be that we play a team consisting entirely of Amateur ex-Public School 'Gentlemen' of Aryan stock.

Totally agree as usual mate. You can't please some people.

We had an Englishman in Southgate who I think did an excellent job, but because he didn't win every game he managed 12-0 he was useless. We couldn't find an Englishman to manage England with a decent record and who was available. Apparently Potter was a negative bus parker and Howe didn't want to leave Newcastle.

Carsley looked promising on paper and basically did what a LOT of people have been demanding - play our 'world class' attacking players - and it was a dogs dinner. Now he's useless.

I suspect we will soon hear that Tuchel is useless as well and we should've picked some other random manager! Tuchel has done well wherever he's been, won trophies and seems well regarded by those in the game. I think it's a bit of a coup in that United have been sniffing around him and I dare say there's plenty of other teams who would want him if their seasons don't start well.

I hope he does well and I think he's probably the best manager we could realistically have hired.
