thoughts on de jong?

i watched the reserves the night before and was amazed at the quality of the performance so i couldnt wait for our first team to rip a poor newcastle team apart but i was disapointed with de jong 18mil i honestly expected more personaly from him and from the team
one other thing i was talking to a football scout at the reserves game and he said the level of our reserves performance was as good as anything he had seen all season and he included premier league games he had watched. i honestly put this down to the new training at carrington and if it can do this to our reserves eventualy it as to show in the first team

Well,

Since I was watching a stream and both Zab and De Jong had white boots on and add to that that so did Bridge and he came in-field alot, it was hard to tell which one of them was which so I couldn't really say lol.

What I do know and could see though was we we're giving them too much time in the midfield for the whole of the second half and they nearly scored twice as a result, before eventually hitting the back of the net.

I reckon we wont see the best out of De Jong for a month or two assuming he keeps playing.

Encouraged. Will be one of those players that you don't notice so much as he goes efficiently about his work.

Suprised at the negativity tbh - I thought he looked great to start with, and although he faded out of the game after a while we have to remmeber that he hasn't played for a few months.

In the first 15 mins he was snapping into tackles and looking to receive the ball all the time. I think he will get much better as time goes on.

And Kompany looked good too .... distribution from the back so much better last night!

His role in the team is to protect the back four & can play well & efficently
and still go unoticed, an unsung hero who won`t go looking for accolades but a
solid pro who his team mates will appreciate.
The sort of player every succesful side needs.

I am shocked at how negative and unappreciative some people are. I thought he put in a great performance considering he lacked match practice and was coming in to a new league. A great tackler, very strong in holding the ball up, always wanting to get stuck in and more to the point he has quick feet and can pass to a blue sheet.

He did fade, nobody can deny that but that will come with games. I'd rather spend £18 million on him than whatever the rags spent on Michael Carrick to be fair.

Very good debut when you consider it's his first game for 4 month or so and the team was new to him pretty impressed really.

Thought he was great from what we seen of him, he just clears up the shit in front of the dfence, and he is what we have needed. A rock hard midfielder.

He's not the type of player who's going to get us on the edge of our seats but what he does do he does very well. He gets stuck in and can certainly tackle and he keeps it simple when he has the ball which is what is required in the position he plays in. He's going to be a very good player for us

Thought he was solid, Dont forget hes a Makeale type player we wont see all he does as it will go unoticed, But effictive, He will be key part in the defence of our side!!!
