Time for a wage cap?

So maybe there should be and maybe there shouldn't. It's a business. It's supply and demand. Is the issue that the clubs can't afford it or is it a moral crusade (see Nurses etc) ?

Take the organised cartel of American football.
Their players generally get more in wages that the top premier league stars. A lot get signing on fees equivalent sometimes to transfer fees. Owners get a real wedge guaranteed for life. It's a massive set up that is only attractive to one country (biggest economy, of course). It also supports a massive behind the scenes industry.)

Make no mistake, if it is not introduced world wide, it will be undermined - probably by the yanks!

There is a superb documentary about how in reality their pay is shit compared to baseball, Hockey and Basketball.
The truth is that whenever the yanks are involved in the running of a sport, the prices go up, the sport becomes performance art, the owners get rich and the players are often collateral damage.

Thanks for that. Didn't know some of that. There is the temptation is to think that these players have been stupid with life choices (and purchases) but they come form under privileged backgrounds and the money is a shock to their system. Thats why I love what the club do with ours in regard to education and life skills. You can see why the red shirted PL owners want to re model our game.

My son writes for a Ravens blog and talks to me about contracts amongst other things and I obviously wasn't listening closely enough.

So by capping the wages, I assume he is suggesting he will give the money saved back into the community or is it just so he can pocket more himself?

As for the agents stuff, yet another cost cutting measure that the owner of football club would want to implement. Means one less person to pay for every deal.

Interesting article in the Guardian today by Jason Stockwood, the chair of Grimsby Town, arguing for a wage cap and for more regulation of agents and agents' fees. Obviously, he's not impartial on the subject, but I thought it was an thought-provoking read. (Also please be reassured he doesn't mention City or 'state-owned' clubs once).

Salary cap would kill the golden goose that is the premier league.

Whilst agreeing in principle about a wage cap being unworkable, surely a player ‘only‘ getting, say, £1M a month shouldn’t be that controversial?
No mate I agree with you, IMHO nobody needs that amount of money to live it's obscene. Players are becoming more and more distant in general and we have fully entered the cult of sleb 100%.

If you live in a country where capitalism isn't King and if you have fame/skills then you get privileges that others don't get, it's always been that way really.

What stuck in my gullet was the money Scudamore got from every premier league club as a leaving present.

I doubt the owner of Grimsby Town is pocketing much money.

Have you considered becoming a Fremason?
