I was fully willing to give him the entire campaign, but all we've learned is that eight months into the campaign, he still has no idea how to get the players to perform for him. The man brought in eight first team regulars, so at this point he can't complain about poor fits for his system.
Speaking of which, I've been watching Hughes's sides now for eight months, and I'm not entirely sure what his system is. All I know is that it involves a paucity of shots and is utterly worthless on set pieces at the attacking end, and a defense that can't mark or defend set pieces at the other end.
He seems like a decent chap and I wish him success at his next stop, but it has to be crystal clear to everyone at this point that he's simply not the right man for the job at City. For a club picked to finish in the top six -- and that was before all the transfers that have come in since the season kicked off -- City are headed for a miserable mid-table finish. And after crashing out embarrassingly early in both domestic cup competitions and failing to get past the quarterfinals in the UEFA Cup, all Hughes has to show from this season is a track record of consistent underachievement.
Sorry, Mark Hughes. Your performance simply hasn't been nearly good enough to justify bring brought back.
Wishing him all the best at his next stop here too. Good summary of the campaign, somervillain.
