At the moment we are getting some right shite from certain quarters (media, pundits other clubs etc etc.), that during the credit crunch, we have the audacity to bid £100M on one player, albeit one of the best there is.
The media are bleating that the common man has been priced out of football, its now middle class and the middle class man / woman etc. are struggling to find money for his / her season ticket. And look what little old City are doing - the bastards (or words to that effect)
I dont think that it is wholly unrealistic that this situation could be used as a very, very positive spin by our owners. If for example they kept the season tickets at the same level as last year (or reduced them by say £25.00 or so) think of the positive PR, and the media reaction to this ? - It would mess with their heads big time
Assume 30,000 season tickets @ £25.00 discount = £750,000 lost revenue to them, to our owners this is chicken feed.
Our owners are very astute business men, they are aware of our history and our fan base and this is one of reasons that they have said attracted them to buy us.
It probably wont happen, and prices may go up for 2009/10, justified by the investment they have put in to the club, for which we cannot thank them enough.
But If (and its a big if) prices were kept the same and maybe even reduced) I would not be that surprised.
With what has happened recently anything is possible
