Out of interest.....what are the trainers/jockeys/stable staff/tipsters/media columnists/presenters and the thousands and thousands of other people employed because of horse racing supposed to do for a job?
i don't know get another job like everyone else has to when they get laid off maybe?
understand the point of "they were bred to race" etc but the horses don't really get a say do they?
anyway i no longer wish to go on with this subject so have a nice day :)
Not really the point that is it. The fact is thousands have lost their jobs and source of income in their only specialist area. They'd need a completely different career path and often people just can't adapt. Should they have to restudy for a new career?
From an equestrian perspective, horses enjoy racing. They enjoy training and those that don't are usually sold off to become pets. Yes, accidents happen and they die. Its horrible, but shit happens. Don't be under an illusion that horses are forced to race, they are there by choice, indirectly.
Horse stables are full of horse lovers, working with them every single day to train. Most of them are not gamblers and hate everything gambling stands for, they are there purely because of their love of horses. If there was even the slightest bit of cruelty involved in racing, do you think they would continue to be involved?
Horse racing makes a lot of people happy, and more horses walk the planet because of it. When bad things happen, it's the dark side of the sport and nobody wants to see it happen, but shit does happen unfortunately.
