Time wasting by players

you stop time wasting and fans will just find another reason to whinge when their team isnt winning, it's just a sympton of being a football fan.

seriously, there's plenty of time to put most teams to bed, the fluidity of the football clock is just part of the game.

Of course there's time, that's not what this is about.

Don't you think that the practice of time wasting spoils the spectacle?

yeah, as does diving, harassing the ref, the attitude of players, the long ball game, unfit professionals, players who cant use 2 feet, poor refereeing, incorrect offside calls, penalty box decisions.....and more

it's the game. time wasting is but a drop in the ocean

Exactly, I view it in the same way I view diving, it's effectively cheating and as such I will complain about it.

Tis just part of the game and every team does it whether we like it or not. I would love referees to clamp down and book players early when it's obvious. Southampton were doing it right from the start and that drongo keeper of theirs is the most obvious culprit I have ever seen and even after he was booked!

I've heard 'cheating' called some names but this must take first prize! It is the perfect definition of 'Fergie time'!

I would like to see a chart showing the amount of 'playing time' available in each PL game. Things like someone toeing it into the second tier are somewhat unavoidable but fannying around in the goal area, placing and replacing the ball on what is a billiard table-like surface, ostensibly avoiding 'divots', and running up a line to take a throw in and then going back to the original spot, and the 'newer' version of no one being available to take a throw in, or two or three players passing the ball to each other in some form of temporary bewilderment as to what constitutes a throw in! These are issues that just get all thrown together in that pigeon hole that says 'Take no action!'

It's to be expected that a lot of teams come for the draw and therefore time waste but Southampton took it to new levels on Sunday.

As for Forster's antics, I remember him doing this against us before and he actually seems to enjoy it.

Maybe football could take a leaf out of the futsal rule book to speed things up. For kick-ins in futsal you have to deliver the ball within 4 seconds of being ready to do so. If it's clear that someone is deliberately messing about, book them. The ref bottled it on Sunday - finally dishing out a couple of token yellows right at the end when they'd been doing it all game.

There is a simple solution to this once the keeper has the ball in his hands he has say 10 sec to place the ball and take the kick otherwise it will be a mandatory booking, no if's no but's. Maybe if they did this it would stop time wasting, the same would go for free kicks, corner's and throw in's. If the free kick/corner/throw in is not taken within the 10secs. after the ref has blown his whistle it goes to the opponents. So imagine this your team has a free kick just outside your penalty box, would you risk taking longer than the 10secs. and giving the opponents a chance of a shot at goal, I don't think so.

I can't think of a bigger insult by a ref than to perform this meaningless exercise. If he is gonna book someone for time wasting it should be on the first occasion. The players know the laws of the game and they shouldn't be told about how to go about not infringing! No bigger bottlers in sport than a PL referee!
