Time wasting by players

I don't understand why the premier league do not have multiple balls around the pitch which are thrown to the players when the ball, goes out. This happens in the CL and I did see stats how it increases the amount of time the ball is in play and time wasted.

Apparently the argument is that mutiple ball systems are easier to exploit by home teams. Not sure if thats generally true, but it was definitely the case when we used it under Pearce. The ball boys were more effective than some of the players.

In comparison to most teams, City are pretty good about time wasting, diving etc. But Southampton yesterday were appalling. More needs to be done to combat it.

Yeah but with our team if we get the opponents to come out we ' should' get a hat full.

We are desperately short of the player who can successfully 'run' at a banked midfield. Sane and Sterling seem to be the only ones who have some measure of ability in that department, but they are often isolated down the flanks, run into a dead end or have two or three defenders lining up to negate the first successful dribble! Oh for a Lionel Messi or a Peter Barnes!

A rule was made in the prem that multi ball wasnt allowed. Some teams were doing it and some teams werent so they decided to make a set rule about it. No idea why they wouldnt go in the other direction to speed the game up

The obvious fact is that NOBODY knows how long a football game last, players, managers, fans, and yes even the FEFS . They have to guess it. FIFA, UEFA, and the FA have all refused to bring in a timekeeper as in Rugby league where EVERYBODY knows at what point in time the game stands. It's also plain to see referees could not care less!!!!

Sorry didn't quite catch that, can you say it a little louder?

I'd love to see the actual rules on what is a legitimate use of time (ie ball not in play but time not added on) and what is not legitimate (ie ball out of play and time is added on). My assumption is that it is all incredibly vague and there is a huge amount of referees discretion (which essentially translates as the ref is making it up as he goes along)? I can't think of one good reason to not completely change the rules on the timing of matches but as you say, the authorities don't seem to even consider it which I can only assume means that the authorities see time wasting as a completely legitimate part of football, a weapon in the armoury of teams if you like. Whereas I think your average fan probably sees it as a form of cheating especially if you've paid forty or fifty quid to watch players fuck about over goal kicks and throw ins and a referee "threateningly" look at his watch over and over again.

Opposition know Peps system suites the multi ball, fast paced game and thus clubs now play against us with one of their main tactics being to tick the clock down and disrupt chances we get to continuously play (catching them off guard)

They time waste to get themselves back into position, re calculate and concentrate.

Pep heavily relies on opponents to make mistakes due to tiredness, lack of concentration and so on (this appears more in multi ball)

Which is why we are seeing more time wasters now.

It won't change as clubs will happily come to play city and "Gain" a draw.

Thought for sure the 5 minutes would become 7 or so this weekend. At least deep into the 6+. Nope, ended around 5:45 of stoppage.. but that was nowhere near enough. It was absolutely egregious.

I don't really blame Southampton for it. It is infuriating but if the referees actually appropriately added the time on it wouldn't matter. Foster wasted a good minute on his own in stoppage time yet that time wasn't actually really added.

I actually think that from the 80th minute onwards the clock should stop every time the ball is not in play. Would put a stop to the piss taking end of game time wasting.

They always seem to revert back to the principle of the game being played to the same criteria at all levels, therefore if it happens in the Premier league it has to happen at non league level as well, as i understand it they also need to get approval from Fifa to trial any changes. Its not easy to change things, this is why gaol line technology took so long to come in and was an exception regarding lower levels of the game.

i used to time games, but cant be arsed nowadays, but none of the games i did time reached 70 mins, some not even 60. Will it be fixed? will it fuck.

It just needs to be strictly timed and reduced to an hour. None of this dual system where some refs go very strict in added time and some won't add a second.
