Time wasting

Keepers don’t hold the ball that long?

There’s no specified time in how long they have to take a goal kick.

Maybe there needs to be.

Taking too much time to get the ball back into play and using up time when the ball is in play are two completely separate things. You’re right that delaying the restart doesn’t have a specified time as to what constitutes “delaying “ But it’s laid out in plain language that the goalkeeper has six seconds to release the ball once he’s controlled the ball with his hands. Put the stop watch on it when you’re bored watching a game at home one time and you might be surprised. The new regular thing now of falling over every time they take a catch uses up the regulation six seconds. By the time they’ve got up, fannied about for a while and released it, 20 seconds is far from rare.

I don’t think the 6 second rule includes keepers “fannying around“ on the floor. It’s surely designed for when they are standing still looking to release the ball.

If a keeper catches a corner, it makes sense for him to keep The hall whilst his side get back into shape, unless there is a promising counter available.

The problem for the laws of the game is that they are black and white and the game has many nuances.

Simple answer is for the ref to add on 10 minutes extra time at half time. When the players and managers query it just point to the keeper etc. another answer is to follow rugby and have an independent time keeper. Two lots of 35 minutes and if it takes two hours to complete a game then so what.

The two main things for me are

The keeper taking for every to take a goal kick.
Players pretending they have an injury.
Under the referee's duties, players, if injured, should be treated off the pitch. How often does that happen?
From the LotG, Law 5.

INJURIES
  • allows play to continue until the ball is out of play if a player is only slightly injured
  • stops play if a player is seriously injured and ensures that the player is removed from the field of play. An injured player may not be treated on the field of play and may only re-enter after play has restarted; if the ball is in play, re-entry must be from the touchline but if the ball is out of play, it may be from any boundary line.
Why don't referees follow their own laws?

Players coming back on. At the villa games was it Cash who faked an injury in our penalty area ? He was treated than recovered ran 70 yards across the pitch to his left back position than went of the pitch to get waved back on as the ball was kick !

I didnt know 'injured' players could run to their position to come back on. Perhaps it should be made a rule it has to be the halfway line

Also, again as in rugby, play goes on in the event of an injury and the medic comes on. Unless in the event of serious injury in which case if the match stops that player should be substituted. No exceptions. Cheating cured, jobs a good 'un.

Teams would find a way round it.

Keepers will suddenly all keep getting cramp if they don’t have to go off the pitch after treatment etc,
