With regards to the Palace keeper yesterday, he was just about within the boundaries, but the ref turning his back and waving an arm was an utterly pointless exercise
There should be a law introduced for a time limit of 15 seconds for a goal kick
We have a multi ball system. The ball boy/girl rolls ball to the keeper, 15 seconds starts there and the opposition players are out of the penalty area
One warning. Second time it happens, the opposition get a corner

The idea of actually stopping the game clock when the ball isn't in play has been suggested plenty of times down the years. The issue seems to be that halves would last nearly an hour each, and that TV (who seemingly call the shots these days) are dead set against that.

Not to mention that teams would still delay goal-kicks, roll around on the floor when tackled, get the stretcher-bearers on for a touch of cramp, and make 95th-minute substitutions even if it didn’t waste a second: the breaking up of play is the key element, and it’s that the officials can come down on like a ton of bricks and still squeeze in those all-important betting adverts.

In our games, given our mixed record at penalties, that's not much of a punishment to the opposition!
