Time wasting

"The ‘shortest’ game of the Premier League season so far was Leeds United’s 2-2 home draw against West Ham in January. The ball was in play for just 42 minutes and 12 seconds of play – or 42.3% of available match time. Spectators at Elland Road didn’t even get to watch one half of football, let alone two.

..........

You genuinely would have had enough time to put the kettle on while watching Everton taking throw-ins against Manchester City on New Year’s Eve. The Toffees took an incredible 51 seconds per throw in their 1-1 draw against Pep Guardiola’s side
."

Needs addressing. Remind referees and players that you can be booked for time wasting even if the first minute, non head injuries should be treated off field if safe to do so or very near to the edge, play acting is disrespectful to colleagues and teammates who may actually be injured, and in an era when us paying fans are expected to cough up more and more season on season (in the midst of a financial crisis where many are facing tough choices over food and housing bills, let alone how they can afford to show their support), that pushing it to the extremes of not even seeing the ball in play for 45mins is akin to us purchasing a product not fit for purpose that, regardless of whether you win, lose or draw, is not giving the very basic principle of football of watching a full game of sport.

Plus none of that even mentions the time from waiting on var decisions.

I'd even go to the extreme of invoking fair play penalties. Have the ball in play less that 55 mins over a season and get a points reduction. Does that disadvantage the poorer teams? Maybe, but so what. This is a spectator sport for most and about time we were put first.
Some great points but youre thinking the powers that be give a shite about the fans… they dont

It's getting worse.
Yesterday a forest player just sat down .
After a few minutes of the physio doing nothing apart from bend down next to him he got up and walked off to be replaced.

So if your winning a game just sit down for a bit

Wasn't watching but I suspect the player and physio knew he couldn't continue but needed to give the sub time to put on shin pads, shirt, stretch etc. Refs need to sort this shit out i.e. ask the player if he is fit to continue, if not get off the pitch and let's get on with the game. Oddly in rugby despite the clock being stopped players who are being subbed run off, none of this walking slowly and applauding the crowd bollocks. If the PL /EFL / UEFA etc were really serious about stopping time wasting and ensuring fans actually watch a decent amount of football they would hand over timekeeping as they do in rugby. Clock stopped every time Pickford spends 45 seconds on a goal kick etc.

Look at Jesus I'm the arsenal games.
Goes down on the touchline.
Rolls around.
Nearly off the pitch rolled the other way so he was on the pitch.
The amount of time the arsenal players literally just sit down is pathetic

LOL at head injuries being used to waste time, like they didnt think that would be exploited.. Right fkin pandora's box they opened there for such a tiny problem. Though I do remember the bad old days when players were dropping like flies from head clashes, player deaths every season, players having to be put down,

And even worse, they dont even apply the rule. Players clash heads but they carry on because losing the game is more important. And at the end of the day who pays... Its us the fans, we have to wtch these prima donna millionaire footballers feigning near death, stopping the game because they think they might a career ending inhjury... Oh no it was just a scrape, 1 minute later back on his feet going in for the next tackle.

Ahhhhh.

(We dont get that with City thank fuck!)

Not sure I like the idea of a hooter but I like a stopclock even less. Americanisation :(

What about this? Independent timekeeper allows 15 seconds for a throw-in, 20 seconds for goal-kick, 10 seconds for a free-kick and so on, any time over that gets added to a clock that everyone can see. At the end of the half, that much additional time gets played.

Or what about this radical idea? Referees just do their bloody job properly.
Do refs use a stopwatch. If they don't how do they know how much time to add.

The one that really boils my piss is the keepers falling to the floor and curling up in a ball everytime they catch the thing
See Pickford and ramsdale the main culprits
Ungentlemanly conduct? Book them and it will soon stop.

I think the analysis would be more interesting if there was a section for when a team is in a sub-optimal result. We all know so-called bad teams that are trying to salvage a draw against top teams will waste time at 0-0 and when they lead. If they lose, they will not waste as much time. With top teams, they will only waste time when they are leading, as draws are not an optimal result.
