Tinnitus help and advice - Tinnitus Awareness Week 1-7 Feb (P 15)

What do you think is the cause. Have you been exposed to high noise levels?
I worked in a shipyard for nearly 10 years and been to a lot of metal concerts over the years, but to be honest I think it’s years of listening to music through ear buds at too high volume. People always warned me but I never listened (bad pun). It’s a good warning to anyone that has kids constantly listening through those ear pieces - they are damaging your hearing but it takes a long time to show.

Was just reading all the messages and was going to post about Craig - a City fan too - who I knew very well. Took up drumming at 14 with the Carpets and never used ear protection and was DJing over many nights too....
You can contact these too, if needed.

Best wishes to the OP and those others on here with it.

Thanks for that link, I’ll look into it and see what they say.

Big thank you to everyone who had replied with their experiences and suggestions etc. It’s good to know I’m not alone (very surprised though just how many others have tinnitus too). Fingers crossed when I finally see ENT they can help.

CTID!

For (particularly) teens and early 20's who go to lots of gigs it is recommended they wear special ear plugs - especially security / bouncers at gigs stood in front of the speakers.
Of course at that age they dont want to listen / dont look cool in them but it is important to get the message across.

There's a new treatment just been made available.

I don't know much about it but it is being taken seriously by the online tinnitus community.

It will be a couple of months before some kind of picture emerges of whether it works, the extent that it works and who (if anyone) it works for.

See the top twp threads at the very top of this link:

There is one caveat: the Tinnitus Talk website features a lot of posts written by members who are struggling with or even having suicidal ideations in relation to this condition. This is because those authoring them are new to the condition (when it is common to be gripped by fear and panic because the noise can seem to overwhelming) or because they are long-term sufferers who are not doing well (a minority group) .

For this reason, it should be approached with caution as the forum is not representative of the wider tinnitus community.

This less frequented forum is therefore, in my view, a much better source of information and online support:

Bump

Had hardly ant sleep last night due to anxiety from my acute tinnitus. Driving me nuts. Got hearing aides in my bedside cabinet doing nothing but I can't get used to them. I really need to book another appointment with the audiologist/ear specialist people.

I don't know whether this was linked to SAD which I had worse than ever last winter. I can't get through the winter at this rate: |

I can empathise with anyone who has it,a couple of years ago i was having chemo therapy and one of the side effects was tinnitus
luckily it went after stopping treatment but it dos'nt allways.

I was born deaf and it wasn’t cured until I was a young child. My ears were badly blocked, I have about 80% hearing in both now. Tinnitus is a problem with me too. I keep my ears clean, use drops and keep away from loud noises as best I can. They’re ringing as I type!

any latest treatment advice out there ?

guy at my work is having to retire because of it, awful.
