Tino Livramento

This is very off topic but just on this point as I see this said a lot. I strongly disagree with the notion United threw that league title away. We had absolutely battered them away from home and we were the best team and playing the best football in the league that season by far. They were distinctly average.

We threw it away ourselves from being 5/6 points clear we had some absolutely awful results and we let them back in & get into a commanding 8 point lead in a race they should never have been in.

We then clawed it back because they fucked up the more than fortunate position they found themselves in and we got our arse in gear again.

I don’t disagree with your assessment but they are not mutually exclusive to me over who was the better team, if they won it could argued we let a winning position go.

However, once that was done.

Lost to Wigan away
4-2 up against Everton to draw
Then Etihad and United only ever play to win, came here to shut up shop and City won.

We then arguably threw it away ourselves when all we had to do was beat QPR at home.

A game I never doubted we would win, until what happened, happened.

Felt Newcastle away was the tough one.

Beautiful season and perfect poetry winning on GD because of the sick swan.

But to give up a 8 point lead in 3 matches, where 2 out of the 3 where perfectly winnable, is a bottle job.

Next season must be one where we rebuild & forge the next iteration of Guardiola's squad. If we don't win a bean in the process, then so be it.

The time we should've addressed our succession planning was after the treble. It was stone cold obvious from then that the all conquering treble team was coming to the end of an epoch & needed a major refresh, but we failed to act & are now paying the price.

We need to concentrate our efforts on the players who'll form our base of our future squad, & let those from our glorious recent past go with honour & grace. It's this simple... )(

Fair.

That’s a lot of contracts to negotiate off the books. Not sure we can do that many?

Is Bonnie blue still posting on here? She can maybe give us some insight… -:)

They signed him and ended up on the same points as the season before. They scored less goals and had a worse goal difference.

We had 11 points fewer, scored 27 less and had a much worse goal difference so, Persie being the difference sounds a bit unlikely.

We dropped off terribly because Mancini lost his shit and fell out with too many people.
Dropping 5 points against Everton, losing at home to Norwich, away to Southampton, and some poor away draws cost us, nothing to do with signing or not signing Persie.
Yes we did drop off (we had a terrible transfer window) and yes Mancini lost it but United were on a slow downward spiral with a poor midfield which Van Persie’s goals addressed but we were linked with him and Roberto did want him. Our points and goals scored would have been better, there was a reason Fergie picked him up from the airport in his Rolls.

Those who probably won't get a new contract next season are merely stopping the progress of those who will be our future. We may as well make next season a transitional one where our new recruits & the best of our academy can bed in & stake a claim for their places.

I know many fans would prefer evolution over revolution, but we lost the luxury of that when Pep decided to only tinker with the treble squad, rather than start the succession planning in earnest.

With Rodri, Haaland, Foden, Gvardiol, Akanji, Aké, Ederson, Bernardo, Lewis & Bobb, we've enough players who've been through the wars for us in the biggest matches, to keep the spirit & expectation of standards alive as our new squad evolves.

I do agree entirely with the list, problem is Kovacic injured, cannot sell prob this window, stones said he wants to stay and Gundog looking great at the min!
I think a few loans will be involved.

Stay & see out their contracts as a squad players. Or they can leave for new challenges as champions & club legends.

Kovacic's injury isn't like Rodri's. I still feel someone will take a punt on him making a full recovery.

It can't just be me who noticed how desperate everyone was to play & prove themselves against Al Ain. Even though Bobb scored, you could see the frustration in his face that his timing, match sharpness & effectiveness weren't there, especially after last summers brilliant pre-season displays.

Cherki was the same in the first CWC match. However, when one of our attacks broke down last night & Al Ain played the ball through their midfield, & were robbed by a tackle midway through our half, it was Cherki who'd tracked him from the opposition area, & took the ball off him.

Cherki then out-skilled the player, found the brilliant Ait Noiri with a reverse pass, & RAN made that cross across the box that everyone failed to connect with. And here's me being told Cherki is crap defensively!

As for Rayan Ait Noiri, he had a similar effect on his debut as did Rudolph. All those arguments about "Pep doesn't like FB's" & "Pep prefers CB's who are versatile" were laid bare last night. We saw the massive difference that a fleet-footed, skillfull & industrious FB made to us. Now imagine RAN with Doku ahead of him or Livramento with Savio ahead of him?

Then we have the development of Bobb, Lewis, Khusanov, Reis, Gonzalez, O'Reilly & Echeverri etc. They need to be properly blooded & fully integrated into the squad, & not stuck on the sidelines watching those playing out the final season of their City careers, who're blocking their path.

I get the feeling many of these squad decisions have been taken out of Pep's hands. Rinsing the same elite set of players for 60+ games per season, season after season has taken a devastating toll.

I like the look of City having two elite teams who can rotate, or at worst, a larger squad where players can be properly rested & rotated throughout a gruelling season.

Football has changed & Pep will just have to accept the challenging demands of the modern game. Last season was enough. It's time to move on & transition into a new dynamic version of the predictable plodders we became during 2024-25.

Livranento is happy at Newcastle and they don't want to sell him, so we need to leave him be and crack on with signing our plan B. Whoever he is ?
When asked, Livramento could have easily said "no". He didn't. Regardless, I'm pretty sure we'll have alternatives lined up. We desperately need a young, specialist RB to complement RAN.

I'll be shocked if we can sign him this summer, but if he's happy at Newcastle we simply have to move on and hopefully sign someone who can strengthen us at RB.

The problem is there's no obvious plan B out there. He ticks all the boxes in terms of young, home grown and athletic.
Not to us but I'm sure Txiki and Hugo are beavering away behind the scenes evaluating who will suit us for the right price. Livramento is well overpriced if 80M is what Newcastle want. That's if they agree to sell but I can't see it happening.

Eddie Howe reminds me of an estate agent or something of that ilk. Zero charisma.
I like him and think he's a good coach, well respected for his honesty, unlike most estate agents! He's done well at Newcastle in a tricky job. (I personally wouldn't be surprised if we're keeping an eye on him as a possible future manager?)
