Tino Livramento

Sometimes, the players who go about their business quietly & efficiently are the foundation on which everything is built.

Opposition fans always looked toward our superstars as the ones who made City, City. However, most City fans pointed to the likes of Fernandinho or Rodri, as the glue that gelled everything together. Remove that, & everything else falls apart as we saw last season & in the CL Final against Chelsea.

Gold doesn't always glitter...
Its amazing how many people underrated how much we missed John Stones last year. The focus was on Rodri for obvious reasons but Stones was literally MOTM in the CL final even though Rodri got the winning goal.....

I dont think many opposition fans even realise this was a major issue for us and nearly as central as Rodri

He’s not comparable to Wan Bissaka other than being a very good one v one defender. Bissaka on the ball made Walker look like Cafu. Livramento is already much better on the ball than Walker ever was. People are missing how good he is on the ball because they just look at his lack of assists
And you've done exactly the same thing with AWB whos been amazing for West Ham going forward depth powerful runs, also getting more assits and goals

However AWB cost £15mil not £80mil

Players like Stones aren't replaceable in today's market.

We'd kill for a right back like Danilo now. Just shows how lucky we were with Kyle Walker.

But thats like saying Doku is a 10 year investment...even though maybe hes not shown hes as good as we thought and maybe we overspent and in a year or 2, we might want to replace

Livramento hasn't shown the form you are talking about, you are assuming hes going to get there but real football, not FIFA etc. Isn't like that, progression isnt linear

£50mil to £80mil is a 60% increase on what we value him at, and given Newcastle stance on Isak who literally gone on strike I doubt they're budging much if they arent on Isak. If hes deemed too expensive then that's it.

The thought of Livramento up against Mbappe etc. Doesn't fill me with cconfidence either, nor does Livramento against a low block which 95% of the time we come up against as hes limited offensively

Livramento is much more a injury risk then Nunes, and id say Nunes is the better athlete in his pace and stamina, with a much better cross

I want Livramento, dont get me wrong, but calling the club out for now paying a ridiculous fee for a player can't be called penny pinching

And looking at his one particular signing as a lack of rebuild is just idiotic given how we've planned for the future and plug gaps i nthe squad with Cherki, Trafford, Reijnders, Ait Nouri, Marmoush, Khusanov, Nico, Reis etc.

We cant buy them all
Doku has been hung out to dry imo. He's a player that gets me off my seat, but clubs worked out his effectiveness could be negated by doubling/trebling up on him, as we contantly left him isolated.

However, with RAN in our ranks, he too can cause chaos on the over/underlap. Clubs can't dedicated between 4-6 players to negated both, hence I believe Doku will become far more effective now he has help. We saw this on RAN's debut in the CWC.

Livramento is a different kind of player to RAN. He's young & English, can play left or right, & neither Doku or Salad got much change when facing him last season.

If City were only looking at him as a player to buy & sell on, then I'd say we'd struggle to make that work at £80m. However, if we saw him as a long-term solution for that position, then at a possible 10 year stint at £8m per season, then hell yes I'd go for him.

Most defenders fear Mbappé & Vini Jnr. But when I think of either facing Livramento or Nunes, I'm sorry but in my personal opinion I'd have more faith in Tino every time. Having said that, you're entitled to believe that Nunes would be the better option. There, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

As for going into the season with Nunes as our main RB option, as I asked previously, what if Nunes gets an early season ending injury? What then? Lewis, Stones & Akanji as right backs?

We need to plug this glaring gap in our defence mate. This is blatantly obvious to me, even if you can't see it yourself. Again, we'll just have to agree to disagree as there's no right or wrong answers, just opinions, where ours evidently differ.

Pep would fill the gap with Akanji, Stones, Lewis and Khusanov in all likelihood.

The best thing about Livramento is his ability to play both sides.

There’s another young international that could help fill our HG quota. Mainoo anyone?
And this is why a versatile full back specialist like Tino rotating with an improved Nunes makes 100% sense.

For £80m, that’s a huge sum for a full back, would you seriously not expect more than 2 goal contributions in 2 seasons playing in an attacking Newcastle side? That’s a pathetic return, one goal and one assist in two full seasons
Whilst not advocating for him, his 2 goals and 2 assists compare with Walker’s 8 goals and 36 assists throughout his entire career. What Walker brought was that he was very good at the thing that many people think is most important bit for a fullback.

Is Livramento even that good? I’ve watched, at a guess, two dozen games where he’s played and never really noticed anything particularly great about him.

Didn’t think he was shite or owt but didn’t think he was anything more than steady, with a bit of pace.
The common theme throughout this thread with those who hope, no DEMAND we sign him, is that he's homegrown. HG status has well and truly trumped any ability he may/may not have, as well as the need for a shiny new toy.

And this is my point. We've have a huge defensive drop off without Stones, but the hard truth is that we can't rely on his fitness.

I'm gutted for the guy, but the reality is we have to face facts & act in City’s best interests.

Been saying the same thing but others dont want to hear it

Mate, Tino would work out at most £8m per season over the next decade. Walker worked out at £5m per season over 9 years. That's how we have to look at Livramento.

As he stands, he's better than all the RB alternatives we have. He ticks so many boxes, that we'd be nuts to pass up this opportunity only to have to rely on Nunes, Lewis, Akanji & permacrock Stones.

We need to stop fuckin about & plug the most glaring hole in our arsenal.
Kalvin Phillips works out at 3.8m a year over 10 years. So what?

We just need a decent right back - doesnt have to be Livramento...just a decent right back. That player automatically is better than the options we presently have at present.
