Tippy Tappy

For me one touch decisive passing to feet quickly will unlock most defences, tippy tappy football is where the pass to feet is no more than a yard or so backwards and forward to the same players not going anywhere.
I agree, quick, decisive passing to feet is the best way to play football and create chances.

It's not possible to do that for an entire 90 minutes though because there's an opposition. Games ebb and flow. Sometimes you have to take the sting out of a game and keep possession.

Sometimes you have to settle your team down to give you confidence. Sometimes you have to take the sting out the game if the opponent is having a good spell.

The English football mentality is 20 years behind Germany, Italy and Spain and that's why the national team is so woefully shite. It's a simple game, keep the ball better than your opponent and you will win the majority of your games.

Watching Italy tonight actually makes my point even more poignant. Their whole philosophy is based on controlling the tempo of the game by keeping possession, and it's won them 4 World Cups!

They speed up and slow down the pace of the game to suit them while keeping possession. You won't see them drilling it down the gully's in to space as some others have suggested they'd like to see City do!

Been trying not to "Triple drop" on this thread, but watching Spain's masterclass against Uruguay tonight has made it essential!

If this is what "Tippy Tappy" is, then I hope City Tippy Tappy the shit out of the league and Europe next year. Absolutely astonishing demonstration of football.

All the "Track back" / "Get it down the gully's" / "Shoooooooot" brigade should be forced to watch this.

This performance has actually got me really excited for next season and the future, as it's obviously the vision the Cheeky Boys have for us. Long live Tippy Tappy football.

What your watching I believe isn't tippy tappy, tippy tappy is trying to play like Spain are now but doing it all wrong.

In the Premiership you need to be able to vary it - quickly!
We have just watched a season of tippy tappy football with Yaya being the tipper and tapper in chief but without any end result. It quicly becomes highly predictable - hence why we found it difficult to break defences down week in and week out.

Possesion football is key but also with a little pace and width to move things forward quickly when the opportunity arises.

Nowt wrong with tippy tappy but you also need an end result.

Tippy-tappy football is all very well if everyone around you plays the same way. However, in a high tempo league and one where there are a fair amount of 'cloggers' then it doesn't work so well.

Bayern and Dortmund play a higher tempo, high pressing game, with lots of tracking back and attacking from deep. That's the successful brand of football now.

You have to do things at a higher tempo than what we have been doing to trouble teams who play it tight. Next season we'll see that. Pellegrini seems to know where we have been going wrong and is determined to give us the options to change that.

Spain's masterclass last night showed a problem with the system.
They totally dominated the game yet they only won 2-1. They really do need to counter attack much quicker far more often than they actually do.
Bayern Munich and Dortmund have shown the way forward. Press, press press (as Spain do) but when you win the ball get it forward as quickly as possible - but then hold onto it if nothing is on!

Tippy tappy is Swansea of 11/12 when they'd pass with little intention of actually scoring. Tika is what we saw last night and in every Barca game. Intent to create spaces and tire opposition with minimum effort expended, a view to score with all possession but patience until the chance opens up.
