Tippy Tappy

A little off the topic, but I think it's interesting that the Spanish national team seems to play more successful, aggressive football than Barcelona does these days. Even when 5 of the front 6 of their drubbing of Uruguay were Barca players. Barcelona's relative lack of success this season has seemed to confirm in many people's minds that their approach to football is inferior to Bayern's powerful but also technical method. I think it has to do with the managers, the Spanish national team is managed by a world class manager, but imo Villanova has not been able to get his team to the heights they achieved under Guardiola. Under Guardiola they were far more ruthless, their possession had more purpose and at one point they almost seemed impossible to beat. I still sense that in the Spanish national team, but not as much in the Barcelona team though.

Yes, I realize they got dominated by Bayern, but winning the league title (100 points) and getting to semis of CL is hardly a poor showing.

I agree Barca didn't seem as ruthless last season as the season before. They certaintly didn't look as potent without Messi towards the end of the season - this definitely showed in Europe.
Although they're obviously a great side they do suffer from playing the one way (Tippy tappy as we're calling it on here) and when that isn't working they don't seem to be able to adjust. Just that most of the time it works very well

Wasn't it originally used by Ray Wilkins? I felt like it was his way of saying 'Tiki-taka'.
I'm not sure where it started, but to use another topical Bluemoon phrase "I find it embarrassing" that people think passing to feet is something that should be discouraged!

It shouldn't but it achieves diddly squat if It's not accompanied with movement.

THIS!!! One touch football where possible with well timed movement using all of the pitch. Duttyyyyyyy!!!!

How ironic, haha!!

Making assumptions based on a forum because you got made to look stupid, priceless.

How have I looked stupid fatbloke? You can't understand the table for what it was - plenty of other people on Blue Moon have understood it (read the thread).

Then when you realise you've made yourself look a twat you start going on about "it doesn't mention goals conceded" when it was never claimed it did. Fucking laughable

My original statement was: The difference column shows the gap between the number of points won from goals only in open play and what we would have won from goals from set play also. This is exactly what it shows. For example Spurs acheived nothing from goals in set play.
I also said: This shows how little we produced from set plays last season - indeed the difference in points was 3. This is exactly what is shows

I ask if you're a teenager as it would explain the maturity you're showing on here regarding this. I contradicted your original post but I also said that on the whole I agreed with it - did this upset you?

Can the pair of you just cut out the point scoring because it's spoiling the thread for others?

If it continues then we'll just have to pull the thread

Thanks!

Absolutely agree with this point. The best I've ever seen City play is the 5-1 at White Hart Lane, and the movement of the front 4 was incredible.

Some very good points raised on here but we did rely too much on "tippy tappy" cat n' mouse, predictable build up play that was too often thwarted in the final third. Either that or we collectively pondered too long, looking to work a perfect slide rule pass or a sublime moment of trickery, which is good to watch but perhaps frustrating when the chance to shoot is squandered or closed down by opposition defence, for like I say the final perfect team build up killer pass to score 'that' well worked aesthetically pleasing goal.

I think Silva is a great player but he needed to shoot on sight more last season as he did when we won the league. With him Nasri and Aguero, we had more pretty triangles going on in a game than the bloody Dairylea factory!.. At least Tevez and Milner tried to be direct.

We have played some good incisive passing moves but all too often there has been no end product and as a consequence, this was one of the main factors on conceding the league IMO.

I can see where you're coming from, but I think there's something fundamental that the "Tippy Tappy" haters always overlook. By playing that way, we regularly enjoy 65% possession. Playing more direct / shooting on site may produce more low quality shots at goal, but in no way guarantees more goals.

What it does guarantee though is less control of possession, and the game. If we didn't keep the ball so well, think what we would be doing? Defending.

I'd much rather us have control of the ball for long spells and be "fucking about with it" as others have put, rather than on the back foot defending, because that's what you are doing when you don't have possession.
