It wasn't him that spent all the £380m you talk about was it?

No, it wasn't, but the part which he didn't spend bought most of the squad which has won us third place and the Cup!
My thanks go primarily to the squad, who have persevered through all of Roberto's weird and wonderful tactics even when they were totally clueless.
All the same, he deserves credit for sorting out a defence which had been completely amateurish under Hughes and for persevering with, and improving, some of the lads.
Also for seeing the light just in time.

Thank you Roberto AND DON'T MAKE ME MOAN AGAIN! (please)

I see you're conveniently ignoring the fact that ALL our important players improved remarkably under HIS management.

No he didn't change the way we played he is simply developing the team.

We will continue to improve next season and perhaps you might finally say he's done a very good job, maybe you should offer him some advice?

Well he suddenly 'developed the team' by doing a 180 degree turnaround in attack!

I've been 'offering him advice' for much of the season, but he seems to think he knows more than I do! ;o)

There's no denying that by keeping the formation exactly the same and selecting the same players playing the same system, he's radically altered the team's outlook. I think the key change has been Tevez. Before he was playing in a semi-withdrawn role on his own upfront. Now he's a 'false-nine', always working between the lines. Or maybe it was Yaya. Earlier in the year he was clearly playing as a DM, wasn't he? I vividly don't remember him dribbling around the box at Spurs or at home to Liverpool, no-siree. It must be that the wingers have now started making those runs in behind the defence, just like SWP did in the first game at Spurs... no, I've got it, it's Barry overlapping on the left? Richards running riot on the right? Or those times where we have everyone upfront and risk leaving just three at the back, first seen for the entire second half at Sunderland, that game was only recent, wasn't it?

And I agree with you about the defence. Thank god he's finally twigged after 18 months that zonal is the way.

Maybe he's now confident that his defence are suitably drilled at understanding what he wants and he feels he can let the leash off gradually. I was myself a bit critical at times but you have to hand it to him, the bloke employed before him never really sorted our defence out and look where it got him?

18 months to get the defence to understand what he wants?

Nooooooooo!

Ahh come on, history shows it takes time to build a successful football team, if it was just a case of chucking a few hundred million at it and lecturing the players a few times it wouldn't be much fun. He's done well in his first full season in English football.

God Bless Him!

For all his failings, he is in the history book as the manager who got us our first trophy for 35 years and into the Champs League, so I'm beginning to warm to him (and to the Sheikhs, the coaches, the players and all the staff.)

I'm probably one of those halfwits you're referring to. I'm delighted that he has proved me wrong. He did seem to change his outlook during the late winter/early spring period. Up until then, the football wasn't the most inspiring stuff we'd seen, and I often said that if only he'd take the leash off, we would then see just how good the squad was. Thankfully, we saw somewhere near our true potential for the crucial run-in. Perhaps that is why he is the manager, and I'm not. Anyway, my apologies and sincere thanks to Bob. Now; where did I leave that humble pie?
Wasn't aimed at anyone mate- but it used to really piss me off when he was getting stick on here. We have been top 4 all season but I like many Blues were waiting for typical City to kick in. But for the blips on Merseyside it never really looked like happening.
Strange as it might seem I believe the loss to Liverpool kick started our push for the cup and the league right at the business end of things. I also believe it was Mancinis inspiration that spurred the players on. Imo he's proved without doubt that he is the man to take us to a level that weve only ever dreamt of. I pray that this is only a taster and with a full pre season and a few additions to the squad, not many teams will relish the thought of playing us next season.

Thank you Bob for making people eat their words (most notably bitter rag journos who couldnt wait to see you fail)

Thank you Bobby Manc.

Been behind him since day one, i said long ago he would deliver.

you've shut up alot of people, and their currently tucking into their humble pie as we speak.

FORZA MANCINI.

Okay, well I would stand by everything I said there.

I guess you have your own examples of what's changed, but as you haven't detailed any of of them, that's all I can do, guess!

cheers bobby manc ,you,ve given me the best season ever watching city. from the 1st minute i sat down in my seat at spurs away, right thru to the end at bolton i,ve loved every fucking minute. the tactical battles have been absorbing.god knows how you managed to motivate a collection of players to go to white hart lane and stand up tall strong and resiliant
when half the team had missed pre-season,were making their debut in the premier league and were facing the full force of spurs attacking abilities.

that one performance,on the first day of the season, told me we had a manager with balls.the atmosphere inside the ground that day was incredible, spurs were all over us from the off but we kept our shape, made so many tackles and blocks, defending for our lives and then slipped into incredible passing triangles, short concise passing to take the heat of us,and keep the ball away from spurs.,not to mention the classy break-neck speed counter attacks.spurs kept coming but city wouldn,t lie down and hart pulled off save after save.anyone remember vinnys brilliantly timed tackle on the russian forward? world class.

Redknapp was wounded after that day.they had given their all,but city showed resolve.everyone stuck to their task.bobby manc had instilled that resolve.a touch of iron.some people said it was a crap game, for me it was the sign that city were changing from being the joke team who collasped away from home,to a team that would need to be respected.

thats what mancini has given city..he,s made other teams respect us.the man is class.and he,s only just started.

thank you Roberto Mancini.

Mancini has spent nowhere near that.

Frankly, we frittered away valuable points in games we would have won were it not for the negativity engendered by Mancini.

This is also strange, what exactly would you define as "negativity". In most matches, we had 4 attacking players on the pitch.

I went to plenty of matches where I sat there baffled by tactics, substitutions, styles and team choices. And times where I was just bloody bored for 75 mins.

Just because you don't understand his tactical decisions doesn't mean that they were stupid. This is a fault of you rather than the manager.

Also, it isn't anybody's job to entertain you. You are watching a competitive sporting competition, if you want to be entertained, try a circus.

I was at the semi and the final of the Fa Cup and it was the best times ive had supporting City in 45yrs. Im grateful to the owners for letting this happen.

Firstly, it's OWNER, not owners. Singular. Sheikh Mansour owns MCFC 100% using his personal wealth generated from investments.
Secondly, it's funny to me that you give credit to a guy who sits in Abu Dhabi signing cheques, but no credit to the guy who manages the entirety of the footballing side of the business, for the footballing achievements of the business. This sort of logical leap is ridiculous.

I hope Mancini learns we can win playing attractive football, but I think we could have got further this year by doing so.
A very ordinary team won this years Prem...........................we should have been closer to them in my opinion.

After most of the stuff in the above post, I'm not sure how valuable or educated your opinion truly is. That "ordinary team" went a whole season unbeaten at home, and went for a league record 30 games unbeaten whilst winning the league and getting to the Champions League Final. It's astounding that you believe that the potential CL winners this year are "ordinary" and that a brand new team like City "should have been closer to them".

We've been on a terrible run but we've finished strongly and ended up 10th, which is where we wanted to be in the first place. To finish above Newcastle will put a smile on the face of everyone in Sunderland."

The BBC making a mistake, surely not?

I can think of four BBC mistakes every week during the season - Hansen, Shearer, Lineker and Crooks. Five if yer count Yappy Yorath.

I hate seeing him blamed for the 380m. He took over a club in 6th position and spent 150m. It was his decision to move on Bellamy, Ade, RSC, Bridge, Robinho, et al, but it's not his fault that for one reason or another, the club hasn't received fees for them. If we had got two thirds of the money back we'd spent on them, we'd be talking about him taking over club in sixth position, spending considerably less than 100m net, winning the FA Cup and beating Arsenal to 3rd position in his first full year. Anyone would agree that was a superb performance.

But if the money means you can't take success at face value, then I would hope you can recognise the strides that our young players have taken under him. He's given Hart, Richards, Kompany and De Jong clear roles and direction, and they are flourishing. There are clear ideas behind everything that the team do on the pitch, and the team sticks to them religiously, every game recently, we've stick at the plan until it worked. Even the substitutions are very predictable, one player comes on (and usually scores), but the changes in shape upfront or the midfield are very predictable and usually totally effective. Everyone can see exactly why we win when we win, and why we lose when we lose. That's how we will progress, because everyone knows the plan and is focused on perfecting it. I can accept that it's not always to everyone's taste, but it's the way the top teams work, why after years of practise, they can rotate, bed in youngsters, and never miss a beat.

He's done really well this year, and so have all the players. They've stuck at it, shown grit, courage, focus and a great team ethic. It's a joint effort and I hope they get their share of the plaudits.

Yep,you're right - may be I am a grumpy old git. I just want to be entertained as well. Is that too much to ask?

My,my, you've spent a long time replying to my constructive criticism - which I believe Im entitled to? Obviously you think not and that yours is more valuable.

I think most spectators like to watch football to be entertained and that most folks employed in the game would accept they're in the entertainment business. I cant get to many Circus' these days, but even when I could I still liked football too, and golf, and fishing etc etc. Football is an expensive product for which I expect to be entertained. Frankly, a lot of times this Season, I have not been - Im entitled to say so.

As for the rest of your drivel - what on earth has it got to do with it about how many owners we have? Blah, blah, blah. You dont have to worry about how valuable my opinion is any more than I yours. Just make your observation in a constructive way and move on otherwise you start to look a bit silly.........................

Dick of a post, bob changed his outlook, exactly what the doubters wanted.

Now he has seen what can be achieved I expect him Yo carry on in the same way next season.

Simply not the case, it was obvious to those with a brain that there was always going to be a more attacking side to the team once injuries had dried up and players got into their rhythm.
A manager who signs players like Balotelli, Silva and Dzeko is hardly one planning a team of attrition and boredom.
It was obvious that when we were at near full strength, which we rarely were during the first 6 months we were a very fluid attacking side, I cite West Brom, West Ham and Fulham away. We looked great.
Unfortunately people couldn't see the bigger picture, and more unfortunately weren't prepared to see the bigger picture.

It's taken a while for the Mancini outers to realise that he is indeed a great manager.
He is probably the only manager in the Premier league (Ferguson aside) that has true conviction in his thoughts, and does not bow to fan, media or player pressure, that is what makes a truly great manager.

Where is Didsbury Dave on this thread? Conspicuous by your absence....
