Today's shooting in America thread

This is [the sanitised version of] the bodycam footage of the Burlington store shooting.

I have a few questions maybe some of our Blue Lives matter supporting posters can answer:

Why are there so many officers, guns drawn, not strategically cutting off the area?

Why is a rifleman needed to be point?

Why would an officer open fire in a store full of people?

Why is an officer gunning down a man who was gunless?

Why aren't US police willing to engage in hand to hand combat when the perp is gunless and outnumbered??

From the footage, the claim that the killing bullet that struck Valentina Orellana-Peralta had 'ricocheted off the ground', is a clear lie. Why lie?

The 'shoot first' and 'get home safe' mantra has gotten out of hand.

I can make no sense of it.

The weapon seems completely inappropriate to the situation and environment, a long rifle that looks like an AR-15 or M4. Even giving the benefit of the doubt in assuming that there was sn active shooter/armed gunman on the premises.

If you have ever seen UK fire arms cops up close they usually have submachine guns or carbines that have a shorter length and are easier to hold and use at close and medium range.

I wonder if American cops even use dum dum bullets to prevent collateral damage.

Why is an officer gunning down a man who was gunless?
And he would know this how, after being called to a shooting?

Why aren't US police willing to engage in hand to hand combat when the perp is gunless and outnumbered??
Because they’re armed and their weapons can be used against them…while subjecting themselves to unnecessary physical abuse.

Any American with half a brain knows not to bring fists to a gun fight if you want to attack police officers or not comply in a deadly encounter.

Oh yeah…the perp KNOWS he needs to comply and not fuck about or else he’s in big trouble!

I’m going to need more evidence than “From the footage…it’s a clear lie.” Sorry.

Lastly, you bring up “Blue Lives Matter.” Do YOU believe Blue Lives DO Matter?

Hm, okay, so it's clear you're an apologist for the police in this situation. At no point have you mentioned the victim, but let's press on...

I can only go off what the body cam shows.

You have not answered why a rifleman takes point.

Maybe you can provide a dispatch recording of assailant with gun like I've provided visual body cam evidence? And talking of which...

The officer has eyes and can see no gun.

Did you hear him scream "Gun! Gun! Gun!" like you hear so many times? I didn't, so your ears are definitely keener than mine.

I'm assuming officers wear bulletproof/ stab-proof vests that are standard depending on which part of the world your are, so surrounding an assailant with a bike lock is surely something, at least 5 burly cops can deal with? That would have led to zero deaths, but maybe a bruise or two.

Everybody gets to live another day.

As for your mental gymnastics here:

Any American with half a brain knows not to bring fists to a gun fight if you want to attack police officers or not comply in a deadly encounter.

Oh yeah…the perp KNOWS he needs to comply and not fuck about or else he’s in big trouble!

Explain this one, that happened 4 weeks ago. A disabled man in motorised wheelchair with knife in hand does not comply, surrounded by many armed officers...

As for your 'needing more evidence', are your eyes not enough to see a straight barrel pointed at assailant?

Lastly, if you're not prepared to 'protect and serve' when it matters most, why be in the job?

Anymore excuses inbound...?

And this is why people avoid you like the plague!

One tries to answer the tabled question, then you veer off into La La Land to make your tortured point…that most people already get!

Then, for good measure, you TELL OTHERS what THEY think and how THEY feel, when you have no clue, only agenda!

I’m an apologist for no one! However, I DO live in the society in question and see the almost impossible job the police have here!

I have a pilot friend who used to be a Virginia cop. Heard stories you wouldn’t believe!

I can only go off what the body cam shows.
Clearly not, as you’ve already told us where every bullet went! Them’s some good eyes!!

[quote{You have not answered why a rifleman takes point.[/quote]
Who should? Someone else with another deadly weapon, or Andy Griffith saying, “Come out y’all! The laaaaw is here now and it’s time to stop all these shenanigans!”

By the way, ever been shot?
Shot at?
Lost a colleague to gunfire?

Maybe you can provide a dispatch recording of assailant with gun like I've provided visual body cam evidence? And talking of which...

And more ridiculousness!

The officer has eyes and can see no gun.
He’s been called to an active shooter and they found the guy! Which part is hard to understand?

Is he giving himself up?
Is he lying on the ground, arms and legs spread, posing zero threat?
OR is he hiding , running for cover, resisting the authority that has arrived KNOWING they’ve been called for an active shooter?

Did you hear him scream "Gun! Gun! Gun!" like you hear so many times? I didn't, so your ears are definitely keener than mine.
You watch too much TV! HAHA!!

What next, “Do you feel lucky, punk?!”

You are SO clueless it has funny to watch you flail around with your assumptions!

I have LITERALLY watched a cop be shot dead on the spot for treating someone as if they’re not a deadly threat, because they were pretending they were no threat to draw him in.

How many times, in a culture saturated by guns, does a cop allow ANY PERP the luxury and forbearance of that supposition before he becomes a statistic?

Everybody gets to live another day.
Except they don’t always, do they!

As for your mental gymnastics here:

Disgusted by that shooting and I hope, if my understanding of the event bears out, the cops get what’s coming to them.

As for your 'needing more evidence', are your eyes not enough to see a straight barrel pointed at assailant?
I have no problem with a straight barrel pointed at an active shooter assailant. NONE!

Lastly, if you're not prepared to 'protect and serve' when it matters most, why be in the job?
We clearly have a different idea of WHO is being protected and served!
YOU? Perps who get hurt for being a perp!
ME? The people such perps go after and victimize!

Anymore excuses inbound...?
None needed for your wet paper bag arguments!

You make yourself ever marginalized and show yourself to be so clueless to reality with each of these rants, I’m not sure why I waste my time?!

Clearly, your agenda is your agenda is your agenda!

I notice you like to ASK questions, but avoided a very simple one yourself:

DO BLUE LIVES MATTER???

DO BLUE LIVES MATTER???

I'll tell you what's absolutely clear here; how you've lost the plot.

We have visual evidence that the perp has no weapon except for the bike lock used as a weapon. The cop says the female victim is "bleeding", not shot. Again, at no point does anybody in those moments tell any officer 'there's a man with a gun', so it's you making making things up as you go along.

One of the very first things people yell in terms of terror is what the 'terror' is. Let's say there's a fire broken out in a store, people will yell 'Fire!' as a warning or 'X has a gun!'. Point out to me where this happened?

So, where's your proof that an 'active shooter' was called out by shoppers or dispatch? If it's not been released yet, that's fine. I'm just wondering why there are no other deaths, except by police, with this "active shooter"? Was he an exceptionally bad shot when attacking someone at close range or what?

You're awfully het up for someone who has, yet again, failed to acknowledge the unnecessary death of a young woman in a occupied store. Your concern is about police officers getting home safely, by which means, doing what they need to do to 'get home' as byproduct.

I find your palpable anger bizarre, when the questions asked are reasonable and it's you, that's put a mass of spin on post.

If you've watched someone shot to death because of miscalculation, then that means that person knew the perp had a weapon and tried to de-escalate, but I don't know all the facts in that incident, whereas I have shown visual proof against your anecdotal evidence.

How about take the night off for your blood pressure as you've been awfully shouty of late (isn't presenting caps against CoC?).

So far, all you need is your top hat and coattails to complete your tapdance around the points!

Do Blue Lives Matter? Of course, but not at the expense of not doing the job as well as could be that someone else doesn't get to live, i.e., when there is absolutely no choice.

Get a grip!

Get a grip!
You’ve got nothing, so you twist words, insinuate motives and meaning, and then tell others to get a grip for their own health?!

Trying to personalize it to me is a losing battle.

If you think I have no sympathy for the innocent girl, you are an idiot.

If you think I think every police shooting is a good shoot, you are an idiot.

If you think your twisting of peoples words in discussions, then trying to personalize your ire into derogatory insinuations, you are an idiot.

I’m noticing a trend.

Happy shooting in the New Year! I’m going to enjoy warming up the G19 for 2022!

Good times!

And, nothing lowers the blood pressure like a 9mm right through the target!
