Today's shooting in America thread

Oh well. I guess we tried but then we all forgot about all those dead kids. And got on with watching football.

Was this shooting not chaos? Sandy Hook pretty much defines a country in chaos? I guess you mean the economic chaos of lost arms company profits.
I’m not for a second suggesting that I support the gun laws as they are - in an ideal world they would be banned but having spent a fair amount of time in the US I imagine it would cause absolute uproar.

Also not intending to trivialise any of the past shootings. Yes, the shootings to date have been chaos, but my point is if you are going to ban guns or at least introduce similar controls to, for example: the UK, then how do you go about rounding up any current arms out there? Millions would refuse to give them up because it’s “their right” etc...

It feels like a lose-lose situation, because the most logical solution would potentially cause even more havoc than happens with current laws in place.

Yes, but Switzerland's population has a much lower density of Banjo ownership. 'Tabaccer' chewing is also on the wane in swiss culture. Finally, Switzerland had a much higher tolerance for 'Commies'.
The Swiss yodel so they must be wrong uns. Yodelling is only acceptable in Focus concerts and when delivering parcels.

Listening to people claim that gun laws don't stop people from getting gun is so stupid. There are currently laws stopping people from buying fully automatic weapons and you never hear of mass shooters who use them. It seems that those laws work.

The thing to me is, how can those who are opposed to gun regulations continue to regurgitate the same dribble every time one of these happens? Any time there is a public shooting, I hear the same stuff, "Guns don't kill people, people do." "We need armed teachers and security guards at every school" "Bad people are still going to be able to get guns" etc etc. CLEARLY deciding to not take action isn't working. It's literally insanity. How do we know that it can't work when EVERY SINGLE other country that has implemented gun control has seen incredible results. Even if it cuts the amount of murders in half, that is so much life saved.

As an American, I hate that I heard about this yesterday and wasn't surprised in the slightest. This is the norm. I offer my condolences to those who lost loved ones, but for the politicians who will tweet out their support and offer prayers, they need to know that prayers aren't going to revive the 17 people who lost their lives yesterday. They put on a PR stunt by tweeting out how sad it makes them, but accept thousands or millions from the NRA every year.

AP reporting that the leader of a white nationalist militia says the suspect was a member and participated in paramilitary drills with them.

Haven’t seen any other confirmation of this yet.

So not only did you not read the article, you didn't read my post.

My post had nothing to do with Remington, nor to do with bankruptcy, but to do with a fall in gun sales since Trump took charge. Which is why I quoted the profits and sales of SMITH & WESSON (who haven't filed for bankruptcy).

You keep arguing against a point no one is making though.
I did read the article and Remington is being held up as the poster child for the “Trump Slump,” which is why I posted what I did. In their case, the Trump Slump is simply a slogan umbrella for simplistic answers for more complex issues.

I couldn’t care less if they ALL go bankrupt! When was the last time a big brand name company went bankrupt and actually disappeared? Bankruptcy is not what many think it is.

Now, are all gun manufacturers suffering from not having an NRA funded Obama piñata? Absolutely.

I’m not sure why you are always looking for an argument?

Just for clarification, the point I was making was that in spite of the pro-gun policies of Trump who is funded by by the NRA who no doubt have funding from gun manufacturers as well as Russia and gun nuts, gun sales are hugely down as sales only seem to increase when there is a perceived threat to the supply. I doubt that was what Trump intended when he lent his support to the gun lobby. Whatever the actual reason Remington have filed for bankruptcy I would imagine that the huge decline in sales hasn't helped.
Indeed. They lost their boogeyman...Obama!!
