This is a country that's wants to be seen as the best country in the world. The worlds police force. A country that thinks Hollywood is real life and all the films are documentaries.

Well, yes. Switzerland has mandatory gun ownership for adult male citizens but gun crime is non-existent. Canada has controlled gun ownership in high numbers but doesn't have the problems the USA has.

No, there weren’t. There were thousands of deaths of every cause of non-Qataris (90% of an 3m population) over a 12 year period - is what you mean. Heart attacks, traffic accidents, cancer deaths and at no higher statistically significant rate than in their home countries. All of which were counted in the “thousands due building stadia” headlines.

There’s an (IMO very strong) argument that one of the wealthiest countries in the world should be able to provide its workforce with better conditions and workplace safety than countries among the very poorest in the world where they recruit from.

Deaths should be much lower among workers of the same age in Qatar than in Kathmandu and Dhaka.

The same applies to the wages - yes Qatar pays them about $250 a month and that’s 3x what they make back home. But Qatar has countless billions, everyone else in the country has a much higher standard of living. If you want to get accepted by the west then pay workers like the west does.

And why shouldn't I own a gun for my own use?


We, along with many, many other countries in the world have strict gun control. We have an effective licencing procedure and AR-15's are prohibited.

We are not allowed to wander around in the community with firearms and don't live in fear of others around us that might.

A very high percentage of what gun crime we do have is firmly in the domain of gangs and it doesn't matter how much you legislate or ban guns, it will have zero affect on them.
