Today's shooting in America thread

Imagine a country where the general public have no access to guns and the threat of violence in everyday life is rare.
Where you can just go about your daily business with little possibiliy of being attacked.
Where human life, especially family life, is paramount.
I am in such a country.
Any idea where I am?
Australia.

Make a joke about President Xi

To be fair I'd take the authoritarianism if meant the risk of being mugged or women being attacked at night was pretty much zero
It really is.
China is portrayed as a brutal place to live by some of the western media. Now it's no Utopia, you must follow rules and laws, no argument!
Media is monitored and sometimes censored.
The authorities will clamp down on troublemakers and everyone knows where they stand.

Normal human activity including bad habits is supported in an effort to help people enjoy their lives.
For example.
In cafes and restaurants you don't have to leave the building to have a smoke. You are encouraged to drink, and it is expected that you will get loud and a bit boisterous as a result.
If a wedding reception is taking place, firecrackers are the norm.
Junior schools are barriered off when the children are entering and leaving. There is no school bell, instead music is used to signal the beginning of lessons and break times.
And here's a biggie, if you ride an e-bike or motor cycle it is not compulsory to wear a helmet!
China can be a very enjoyable place to live, but you must behave!

A place where you can't vote, a place that is controlled by 4% of the people, CP party members whose job it is to snoop and snitch on anyone acting remotely suspiciously. A place where religious freedom is simply not tolerated. A place that summalarily executes people without trial. A place building artificial islands for territorial gains , a place which flouts international law and conventions....see where I'm coming from....?
Media sometimes censored?
How you described China sounded just like where I live, yes in Europe!! Fiestas, firecrackers, burning effigies in the street, people enjoying themselves and getting drunk and not wearing helmets on e-scooters (stupid really as that helmet possibly saved my life last week ) all this whilst being able to take responsibility for their own actions in a free and open society.
Please no authoritarian whataboutism in reply.
America's gun problem stems from one thing and one thing only...the ludicrously misinterpreted and manipulated 2nd amendment.
End of...

As I said China is no Utopia, but it is possible to live a happy life.
Have you ever visited or lived in China yourself?
