Today's shooting in America thread

I was there for a week in 2006 when City played two games there, no problems at all.
I am just completing my second of three months here.
People are curious about me, what do I think of China and so on.
I can't fault the hospitality except sometimes there is so much food it's ridiculous!
I was nervous and wary of coming here on my first visit as part of a group 23 years ago.
On my 2nd visit (solo) I was scared shitless and felt numerous times like turning round and heading back to England.
China is awesome and if anyone has a chance ro visit then they should in my opinion.

We were in Shanghai and we had a great time, the people were great and the food was really good.

As I said China is no Utopia, but it is possible to live a happy life.
Have you ever visited or lived in China yourself?
I wouldn't mind tbh, I do fancy the idea ...maybe while I'm in Thailand... there's a bullet train line being built so let's see. I hope Xi will be the last bastion of Maoism

I've been to Florida twice which is the sum total of my physical experience of America.
I know there are and have been some wonderful American people.
I am a Rich Hall fan.
If I were American I would vote Democrat.
This stupid obsession with "the right to bear arms" has dissuaded me from returning.
I've been to many places and hope to visit a few more, but I don't do dangerous.
You say that China is ruled by 4% of their population, but what % of the American population make up the NRA? They are the ones who rule there it seems to me.
Enjoy Thailand (I hope to get there myself sometime) and hopefully you will choose to dip a toe in the water in China.

Just letting everyone know, beautiful evening here, humming birds, Robins, crows, cats and dogs. Not fearing anything......hate to diminish anyone's fears

Sadly global politics has been polarised by the toxicity and misinformation on social media. In the US this is being played out in the gun debate even though the gun reform lobby ask for simple common sense solutions like background checks and bans on semi - automatic weapons. The NRA has power no doubt but comes from a libertarian philosophy, the exact opposite of China. As always the answer is somewhere in the middle mate but a return to common sense centre ground politics seems eons away at the moment. Very frustrating indeed. Like it or not the world is becoming a great melting pot so we're all going to have to deal with this inevitability and learn to get along for humanity s sake.

Hear hear.
The proliferation and use of guns take us ever further away from that ideal though. The cat is out of the bag in the USA in that regard. Sometimes we need protecting from ourselves.
The Chinese government governs China.
Does the American government govern the USA?
Is socialism closer to a peaceful and ordered society than capitalism is?
My life expectancy at 65 can't be that long and 'Peace in our time' seems as far (or further) away, as it was 50 years ago.
I had hoped that the world would have become a safer place for my children and grandchildren to grow up in.
