Today's shooting in America thread

More guns, that's what's needed. Arm everyone and then this sort of thing wouldn't happen.

And prayers for the dead and their families. That will help too.

Putting aside for a moment the horror of yet another mass shooting and the idiotic refusal by successive administrations to tackle this issue, the very real question is what on earth can they actually do to stop it?

There's SO many guns freely available in the US, it's hard to imagine that if they made all guns illegal tomorrow, that there wouldn't still be millions of them in circulation for the next several decades. I genuinely have no idea how they can fix this terrible problem.

Having a medical system to help treat mental illness would be a start, but they'd rather risk death than pay more tax.

The way to stop it is for the Republicans to blame the Democrats and the Democrats to blame the Republicans, murder has political collateral in politics.

The argument that there will still be a lot of guns is a poor one tbh, it's not one people use for drugs, prostitution or other crimes. There would be less guns and they would be harder to get hold of. Then over time more and more would be taken off the street and eventually they'd end up with an amount that meant not every bullied school kid or angry office worker has ready access to them. Also, you'd protect yourself from the next generation of guns, which are likely to be far more deadly than the current ones. If you want to drain a bathtub, you have to first turn off the taps.

You'll never truly get rid of gun crime, but you would significantly decrease it over time. The doing nothing but claim it can't be solved approach clearly isn't working
