Togo team bus shot at - Adebayor safe {merged}

Crass, insensitive, terminally stupid...

People actually died today and instead of sparing a thought for the bereaved too many morons have been quick to share their 'wit', wisdom, and psycho analysis of Adebayour's posibble response to today's tragic events. I love City, but I love life more and people lost their's today. Some respect and perspective please.

If i was adebayor i would wanna get straight out and back on the next plane home pronto!

He is "Home", near enough.

You don't know how something like that could affect someone. He may even quit playing, the only person who will know is Ade. I hope the press leave him alone to decide what's best for him.
Erm not really. Doubt you'd class Germany as home especially after being shot at there, would you? Angola is not Togo and Togo ain't quite Mottram.

get all the players home now, and cancel this tournament. In shouldn't be on in a world cup year as it is. Its a beautiful country but full of nutters. I can't belive the world cup is being held there (south africa)

The people making those comments are sick but they do not represent Arsenal fans. There are nasty people in every club. Searching the internet to find some of them just to satisfy a grudge is hardly helpful. We shouldn't be making this about 'us and them'. There really isn't a different between an Arsenal fan and a Man City fan.

I am confident that I speak for most fans, Arsenal or not, in being glad Adebayor is safe but horrified at the amount of coaching staff who suffered injuries and the bus driver who died :(.

I hope the African cup of Nations continues because scum like that should not be allowed to have caused a cancellation of the tournament. Of course it would be understandable for individual players to return. We do need to ask how this happened though, if the country was the correct place to host it, and what about the World Cup in South Africa?

Peace.

this is just horrible. in defence of some of the more thoughtless posts, I've found it's taken some time for the reality of the situation to sink in... as a fan maybe my first thoughts were 'how will this affect our season'... but now I can't stop thinking about the poor driver.... and the rest of the passengers.

one minute you are thinking about nothing more than playing a football match for your country, the next, you are pinned to the floor of the bus with people being shot around you. as others have pointed out, even professional soldiers struggle to deal with situations like this, and they have the benefit of hundreds of hours training. they are desensitized to gunfire, and make a concious decision to follow a career that will lead to them being in dangerous situations. they have time and support to get used to the thought of nasty things happening.

the togolese are just ordinary people. footballers, doctors, coaches.

monday's game seems irrelevant to me right now.

Terrible news. Feel gutted that the bus driver is dead, RIP.

Having seen the vid of the Togo team crying I don't think there's any chance of them playing in this tourney. Get em home

"Gunmen opened fire on the coach carrying Togo's national football squad to African Cup of Nations in Angola, killing the driver and wounding nine others, including two players."

Get those men tf out of there !

I haven't read the entire thread (can't be bothered but from what I can gather there are a few fuckwits about who have made light of this terrible situation....may Karma come and bite you on the arse...)

But...I do personally think the safety of the Togo squad is going to be paramount (and any other team for that matter) and from what I gathered in Ade's interview on the BBC (he speaks really fast so heard selective bits) that they will make a decision in the morning as to whether they come home and rightly so.

I hope they all keep safe in the meantime. I was worried the other day when I read that they were all under 24 hour guard in the first place.

If the Arsenal fans have taken the piss then that is the final straw really, this season they and their manager have proven themselves to be a bunch of first class pricks. I don't wish to go on their board to read their bile.
