Just saw some of the boxing. No head protection - I thought it was mandatory in amateur / Olympic boxing?

It was dropped as a requirement a few years ago for men - they weren't used in Rio either, I think.

Women still use them, as the sport hasn't generated enough data yet to base a decision on.

I think one of the great things the National Lottery has done is make it more widely possible for anyone with the talent to be a full-time athlete. Whether they are then truly amateur or if the lottery is a stealth tax on the poor are other related questions though.

He's said it a number of times, even mentions when the three players who aren't City touch the ball.

It has but there are many sports within it that clearly do not draw from all parts of society. I think I saw a survey once that clearly showed a correlation between wealth and Olympic medals. Obviously athletics and boxing don’t fall into those categories.

The survey I saw compared the percent of the population from fee paying schools in the general population, vs the percentage of British Olympic medalists from said schools. The percentages were quite different I think.
